Kenmore 700 Series Top Loader Washer "tub or barrel" does not spin
Machine is a year and a half old. All of a sudden today we realized that it was not spinning after any cycle. The machine sounds and feels like it is spinning , but the "tub" does not move. Would this indicate a broken fastener or belt? It does drain for the most part.

Re: Kenmore 700 Series Top Loader Washer "tub or barrel"...
The symptoms you describe sound typical of a broken motor coupling. The coupling is located between the gearcase (transmission) and drive motor and consists of two plactic pieces and a rubber bushing. Symptoms of a broken coupling include a washer that will fill, but will not agitate or spin. It will, however, still drain. You may also find black filings under the washer if the rubber bushing sheared apart. If these symptoms sound familiar, then click on the following link for step-by-step instructions on how to replace:
Many of the original couplers that came from the manufacturer were all plastic. They would commonly fail after repeated use, by a weakening of the center hole. The hole would either round out or develop cracks. Eventually the coupler would snap. The fix was a new and improved coupler with a steel grommet. The provided link includes the part number you need to order. A replacement coupler can be found at searspartsdirect.com under the "Brake/Clutch/Gearcase/Motor/Pump" heading as item number 13. Use the illustrations provided by Sears for assistance. You can also try repairclinic.com to order parts as well. If you do not wish to order on line, take the part number provided and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. This IS a common part they do carry.
I hope you find this information helpful. If you require additional assistance please let me know. If the symptoms I've described do not match yours, post back and elaborate further.
PS Thank you for posting your complete model number. It makes our job much easier in trying to find a solution for you.

unless some thing inside the washer is broken i would say the drum bearings have started to wear out badly,,,my washer will easly take 3 king size bed sheets and covers,,,that not a lot realy,,,how old is your unit? and how many washes has it done,,,years old and 1000's of washes?
if it sounds like an aircraft taking off, it can be nothing other then the bearing, sorry. this is how they sound before they break completely, most commonly caused by not using high efficientcy detergent. need back half of tub replaced. very labor intensive and must have prior experience becuase whole machine needs to be disassembled
How long have you owned this unit? If it is new I would look in back for yellow straps and yank them out as they are shipping straps, If it is old I would get it to that point of dancing and stop the machine and check for water in the basket. If this doesn't get it I would pull the machine out and tilt it back and look at the four springs supporting the tub to make sure they are attached especially the one in the back that goes tub to frame. If it is an old but faithful machine suddenly acting this way I suspect basket alignment from a corroded block drive, damaged agitator and holding the lid switch so you can watch the spin will pin point this problem. Another is slow spin from a worn timer leaving water in the clothes, you would know because the clothes wouldn't spin out 100% of the water. Finally older machine can get a sledgy deposit in the back bottom of the tub close to the center causing a unbalance usually marked by a smelly machine that leaves black marks and spots on clothes. Please get back after you have this food for thought.
I under stand you have this problem! I have a kelvinator K605 washing machine that has suddenly halved it's wash time! I can't find my user manual.
At the bottom of this page is a web site for Kelvinator manuals from fixya.com. But I have some most important advice for you to read first!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This machine is very and an energy gussler! My advice is not to put your good money into bad! It's not worth spending a dime to repair! The new machines cost so much less to operate and will pay for them selves in only a few years! And the new machines will not wear out you clothes so fast! Top load machines used to use 54 gallons a load. Todays top load Speed Queen washer uses only 34 gallons! cost only 549 and out lasts every machine on the market. It's tested at 8 loads a week for 25 years. has a 3 year warranty compared to the 1 year of all the rest and a TEN YEAR TRANSMISSION WARRANTY, compared to ONE YEAR of all the rest! Today you can get 10 to 15 years depending how much you spend on the washer!
The washers and dryers today use so much less water, electricity, and detergent that they pay for them selves after a only a few years. My advise is, do not put good money into a washer that is over 10 years old! It is less expensive to buy, run, and operate a new efficient machine! You will see you water and electric bill reduced!!!!!!!!! Speed Queen commercial grade top loader uses only 34 gallon of water compared to the others at 54 gallons! Their front load washer uses, (GET THIS) ONLY 13.9 GALLONS of water and washes in 35 minutes and the clothes are cleaner and last longer cause it uses water agitation instead of a vain to wear out your clothes! How about spinning at 1000 RPM and the clothes come out so dry they are only in the dryer half the time than all the other machines! Thus half the gas or electric bill!! All my employees have replaced their laundry pairs with Speed Queen! My Guys call it the, "No Brainer Machine!"
I hope you can utilize the good advice I so enjoy sharing with all the good people we talk to!
check to see on the top of the basket if there is a balance ring it will look like a large doughnut if it has one and if it is loose or if the fluid in the ring has leaked out then this will cause the out of balance while in spin let me know if i can help 276 523 4434
