Question about HP Jornada 565 Pocket PC

Will there be a PPC2003 Upgrade for the Jornada 560 series?

Looking through newsgroups, it really sounds like HP has stopped any significant continuous improvement efforts for the Jornada. In that light, does anyone know if there will be a PPC2003 upgrade for the 560 series or should I just plan to work this one to its natural death and look for another product in the future?

Re: Will there be a PPC2003 Upgrade for the Jornada 560...

My guess would be no seeing as it doesnt have Bluetooth or Wifi which the new Pocket pc is based on and needs bluetooth as standard i beleive. I would look for a new product not just yet though as not much at all supports ppc 2003 as this forum is slowy starting with the moans and groans of app incompatibility.

Media Player issue

Weird! I would try an alternative Windows CE MP3 player such as Xaudio or PalmPlayer to see if they do the same thing. I have trouble believing it's hardware related because AFAIK the MP3 decoding is all done in software, but I guess it's possible.

Display

Unfortunately, hp does not have similar software posted on the Jornada website: http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpjornada531628_swen.html that would change the 256 color display to any other option; sorry!

Software Upgrade

As best as I reemember there is no way to do it as the OS and apps are burned into ROM. The 568 was the only Jornada that could be software updated.

Upgrade operation system software!

I don't think that's possible as unlike the newer machines the 54x series has the OS embedded in ROM. Even so, I own a 568 but notice that there are no plans to provide an upgrade to PPC 2003 so we'll both have to get Ipaqs :-(

O/s upgrade?

Sorry, the Jornada 540 has the OS in ROM and is not upgradable. Additionally, the 540 uses the SH3 processor which Microsoft does not support in the more recent versions of the OS.
