Okay. Restart your computer and after, go to device manager (right-click on My Computer/Properties/Material/Device manager). Do you see a CD-Rom/DVD drive?

If the device manager says that it can not start, there's not much to do, but to replace it.

If you are using a CD drive, it is probably just too old and can't read anything anymore. Try running an Optical Drive (CD) cleaning disc in it.

Trying to install printer to my acer laptop when put in disc nothing happens

when you click on MY COMPUTER you should see if cd drive is listed, if it is then try a different cd or dvd to see if that works. If that still does not work then check BIOS settings to make sure cd drive is present.

If drive appears ok and printer cd still not working the quick solution would be to go to print manufactures site and download drivers for your printer.

Satellite c655 cd drive not working

Open up the loading bay and use a can of compressed air to blow any dirt, next get a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol, carefully clean the laser lens, allow several minutes to dry, check your cd disc for fingerprints and other marks.

You computer probably has Autoplay turned off for security.
-Click the start button on the lower left and click Computer when it appears near the middle of the right column. -Look for one of the drives labeled CD or DVD, probably the D drive. Righ-click it's icon. -From the list choose Autoplay.
If Autoplay is not an option double-click on the CD or DVD drive. Look for an application called Setup and double-click it to begin setup.

I put the cd rom into the drive and nothing happens. I go to click on the icon under my computer and it causes the window not to respond.

Confirm that the CD drive is not a CD-ROM dive and the CD you are trying to open is is not a DVD. CD-ROM drive wil not open a DVD ROM and in some cases will cause the system to stop responding if youtry to run it.

My cd rom work properly but can't read compact disc

try a cleaning disk .. thats a CD wiht little brushes mounted on it such that it brushes off any dust accumulation on the laser .. you just put the disk in and let it run a short time .. the cleaning disks are available most places for $4 to $8 . i have seen them at the dollar store also .. if that doesn work then a manual cleaning of the laser might be required . (you have to take the drive out and remove its covers .. thats a job for the pros .. you can replace the whole drive for a very low price anymore .. around here a CD drive that also does DVDs and can even burn DVDs and CD is only $24 . maybe less if you are only interested in a CD only drive .. its usually easy to change the CD drive .. just put any jumpers on the same pins as the old one .. if you system is more that a couple years old then you likely have a PATA type drive .. newer stuff might have the SATA connectors ...

LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM T10N ATA DRIVE

Various issues can cause drives to occasionally balk at writing optical discs. These run the gamut of physical, hardware, and software troubles.

Inappropriate or dirty media may be to blame. Make sure to match the type of recordable disc to the drive, and check each disc for fingerprints or other contaminants. If a disc is dirty, wipe it with a clean, soft cloth in a straight line from the center hole outward. Try a quality optical drive cleaning disc if you suspect dust contamination on the drive’s laser lens.

Some discs don’t perform well with certain drives, even within their rated speeds. Try recording at a slower speed and then with a different brand of disc. Also, on PCs, verify that the temporary file storage area on the hard drive used by the burning software has enough free, defragmented space. Allocate at least 5GB for a DVD (9GB for a double-layer [DL] disc) and about 1GB for CD burning.
