H1 out of focus above 7xzoom?

I have only had my H1 for about 1 week so still have loads to learn.I am probably totally missing something & looking completely dumb,so here goes! When i zoom in at approx 7 x zoom/above, the object goes out of focus. If then i switch to movie mode ,you can here the autofocus move & the focus is perfect/as normal, you are able to zoom in and out without a focus problem. Then switch back to any mode and the focus is still normal until you adjust the zoom. Putting the camera in movie mode ,then back again is the only way i can focus above 7 x zoom? Thanks keith

Re: H1 out of focus above 7xzoom?

Very recently, we've been discussing some "macro" issues for the H1 .. Quite clear one has to respect "object to lens" distances :-) In a nutshell : from the full wide Z@x1 up to Z@x3, the H1 is able to lock focus from about 2cm/0.8" (maybe a bit less!) up to approx. 15-20cm/8" from Z@X3 up one needs to keep distance .. ie minimal is 90cm with the macro function enabled .. without that function the distance may be more than 1 meter for proper focus lock .. .. and sometimes one observes odd behaviour .. it locks focus at a position somewhere in between the above, but it is enough to half-press the shutter a couple of times and the focus lock is gone .. weird :-)

Try to use center or spot focusing mode. In the setup menu make sure the Auto Focus mode is set to Monitor (not Continuous). Retry the half-press of the shutter button if the picture is out of focus. Let go and try again. The camera should snap into focus very quickly. Also try to focus on something with high contrast. I hope this helps.

HI, are you sure that there is no conversion lens setting activated in the setup menu? It sounds like that to me. These modes limit the ranges. I hope it will help, otherwise you will have to bring it back.

Taking pictures with my Sony super Steady Shot camera DSC-H2 What if I want the focus to be on something that is not in the center of the lens?

On my Sony DSC-H1,I just depress the shutter button HALFWAY,with the subject in the center.then recompose the shot as you'd like it(i.e.off center), and the subject will stay in focus.

My Sony H1 has stopped focussing.. It does not auto focus and cannot be manually focussed either

HI, you can just get the focus option back on your device by just resetting the Camera to the default settings.

Follow the steps below to reset your device..

Go to Setup-1 Menu
select Initialize
Select Reset the camera to defaults
Select OK or YES when it prompts.

this gets the focus option back on. .

I have a new k20D I have had it less than a week and I can't seem to get the auto focus to work. I can manually focus but when on auto I get the red square for a second and then it goes off it does not...

Does your lens have a ring on it with various lens openings marked on it such as 3.5, 22 etc.? If so, it should also have a "A" setting which is where you should have it. Also, I'm assuming your lens is an auto-focus lens.

Cleaned inside of viewfinder, now AF focus lights gone

Then you learn, when everything works fine, dont mess with it! Have a look at the gold pins that rely the body to the lens. Also check that your lens manual switch focus is engaged... Try a friend lens to see if its your cam or the lens...

SONY DSC-H1 focus problems

I think the reason for that is that you are using a wrong focus type. I recommend you using wide focus (not sure if named it right) and make sure you have your steady-shot function on. To change focus type, just find the button next to the shot-button.

Recharge of flash

Sony H1 camera has a delay to recharge the flash and I hope that you know that as you are using it for the last three years. If the time delay is a new issue check the MAH of the battery to ensure that it will be above 2200 at least. If the MAH is below 2200 it is natural that the time delay will be more to recharge the flash. If my solution proves good please rate it. Regards.

Anyone else have dust under their screen H1

I had the same problem. The H1 back is held on with six little screws and comes off easily. Watch out for the little claw at the top though. A quick clean with a lens brush removes the dust.

H1 - blurry/soft pictures

I'm afraid this is more a learning curve in general photography :-) I know I also fell into that pit, after so many years of 35mm usage!, by believing at first that "digital" can do it all, well it can't fool general laws of photography/optics :-) .. once one has mastered that, things have a tendency to go a lot smoother :-)
