I just bought a broken G9 for parts. The original owner got it wet. After studying the camera, I tried the following:

    • Shimming the battering by placing a folded piece of paper between the door and battery.

    • Canon designed the battery door to be closed before camera can turn on. You can open the door and use a toothpick to lightly press the microswitch while pressing the power button to turn on. If it turns on, the switch is dirty or defective.

In my case, none of these worked so I disassembled the camera. At the base of the camera, there's a connector and "ribbon" cable. I pulled the cable from the connector and found corrosion on the fine copper contacts. The corrosion damaged 4 of the 9 contacts on the cable causing a broken connection for signal and power through the camera. Is it repairable? Only if I can replace it or solder or put jumpers on it. This happens to part of the main circuit harness that travels from lens to processor, etc.

I did learn that a toothpick comes in handy for removing and installing the etched cables back on to the connectors. A small JIS screwdriver is the only other tool I needed.

SOURCE: Canon G9 stopped working

I sent my dead G9, still under warranty, insured, to Canon on Nov. 21. I got it back on Dec. 3, with a note that they had replaced the cameras guts. Works like a charm now. Outside of warranty, I'd suggest contacting Canon.

SOURCE: I'm unable to download photos from the disk.

You may be saving the images in the RAW format, which requires matching software to read. Most kiosks can't read them. If this is the case, switch back to jpeg format.

SOURCE: canon g9 camera doesnt work in raw only jpeg

Go to the menu for the camera and look for "SAVE". you should have the choice in which format to save the pictures. Select "RAW" and then exit the menu. The camera should now save in RAW format. Some one or something probably switched the setting (such as reset camera).

SOURCE: Can I export photos from iPhoto back into the Canon G9 PowerShot?

No, you can't.
You only can transfer the pictures back to the camera if the pictures were taken by the same model cameras, plus the pictures were not modified.

SOURCE: canon G9 no power

Hi

The problem with the Canon Powershot G9 is that there are two small screws that work themselves loose over time and then fall out of their holes inside the camera. These screws bounce around until they cause the fuse to blow and then the camera no longer powers.

You need to have the fuse replaced, or you can replace the DC/DC board much more easily, and then replace the screws and secure them with something like 'Locktite 242' so that they don't pop out again.

We are an actual digital camera repair shop, and can do this repair for you! All you do is go to our site and enter "G9" into the search box. The first result should be the "No Power Repair" for only $90 which also includes the return shipping of the camera to you!

I hope this helps, and if we can help with your repair please let us know.

SOURCE: Canon G9 reads E16. What should I do?

E16 Error code (on all canon compacts) means that there is something wrong with the lens mechanism and it cannot contract/extract/focus etc.

Canon suggests removing the battery, and leaving it out for about half an hour. Make sure that the battery is fully charged before reinstalling it.

Also if you have had the camera for over a year, the battery may need to be replaced.

If this does not work, the camera will need to be sent to Canon for repair.

Good Luck!

Camera won't turn on. Flashes red and orange lights by the view finder and blue at the s button. Battery is fully charged. Just use the camera the other day and it worked fine

The Canon G9 has a design defect, two screws fall out inside the camera and short out the fuse. If you've never had it fixed for no power before this is most likely what has happened to your camera.

Do a Google search for "canon g9 no power repair" and you will see a full repair service including return shipping of your camera for just $85.

Hope this helps!

Canon G9 reads E16. What should I do?

You can go to the website: www.camerasandparts.com and get their email address. They can help you for sure. They only service canon cameras and they are wonderful for help with the canons. Pretty much the place for help with a broken powershot and they charge about half of what canon does. The work with them is superb.

Sounds like you have the short in the camera that a lot of people get on this model. A terrific place for help with this problem is: www.camerasandparts.com It runs $89 all in with the servicing for the camera included. They just work on the Powershots exclusively. They're very familiar with this no power problem on the G9. An excellent place if you need service for a Powershot.

Cannon G9 will not power up?

Camera probably has loose screws inside that shorted it out. Try this site: www.camerasandparts.com They only work on the Powershots and they are excellent for help with these. The problem is usually that two screws inside come loose and short out the camera. The nice thing with Cameras and Parts is they do some fix to those internal screws so the problem doesn't re-occur. Plus they service up the whole camera with shipping back included for $89 all in. Not a bad deal, they do very professional work on these cameras. All the best to everyone dealing with this Canon G9 no power problem.

My Cannon G9 digital camera wont power up even though I have a fully charged battery?

This is usually from a loose screw inside the camera, a screw inside the camera can come loose and cause a short which is very common on the G9. If you go to: www.camerasandparts.com all they deal with is service for the Canon Powershots. They're great if you need a hand with one of these and they automatically do the no power correction on the G7's and the G9's they service which is nice. They are about the least expensive out there at $89 and they include the service and the shipping back. The best part, they do excellent work which is a must for me. Hope that helps you some.

MY G9 IS NOT POWERING ON

It's a common problem with the loose screws on the G7 and the G9 cameras. The camera needs to be serviced since it likely blew a fuse when it shorted. The site that's really good for help with these is: www.camerasandparts.com They just service the powershots and they are less than most places charge. They do wonderful work but the best part is they do the correction for these problem on all G9's they work on so the problem doesn't keep happening. That's where a lot of people go for help with this problem. Good luck with yours.
