From what I understand, the computer is running some flavor of Linux. You can either learn how to use Linux of install a version of Windows. You must know more about the original software that was installed (Windows XP, Vista, Win 7 or Win 8). You need to buy a licensed copy. Your Vista has already been installed on and activated for a specific computer, so it cannot legally be used on another computer. Try Linux. Download a free distribution from the Internet (Ubuntu for example). Burn it on a CD. Configure your computer to boot from the CD-Rom. Run a demo of Linux (without installing) and see if it recognizes all your hardware. If it does you might decide to switch to Linux.
1. run bios and load optimized defaults 2. try with windows recovery console (download from net) , and type in in command prompt fixmbr - only for xp 3. load win 7 setup cd and click repair your computer , you will now the rest , it is user friendly - for win 7 or Vista
Put the genuine Microsoft CD-ROM disk into your CD-ROM drive.
Restart your computer.
As soon as it starts, look for a message like "press Fxx to temporary change boot-order".
Press that key.
Select to boot from you CD-ROM drive.
This will start to install Windows, by reading from the CD-ROM drive.
I THINK IF U GOT THESE OS ALREADY INSTALLED HAVE U GOT ENOUGH SPACE TO CARRY ON WITH THE INSTALATION ,TRY FORMATTING UR DRIVES AND TRY SEVICE PACK 2 IF AVAILABLE ,WHY DOES HE WANT ANY OTHER IF U GOT 7 ITS THE BEST OUT SO FAR
Find a friend with either a "retail" Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM disk,
or with an 'OEM' ("original equipment manufacturer") equivalent.
Use that disk, plus the 25-character product-key on the label on the side of your computer,
to reinstall Windows, or first to try to "repair" your installed copy of Windows.
Or, if you have a "brand-name" computer (Dell, HP, IBM, Lenovo, Acer, Gateway, eMachines)
telephone the manufacturer, and order a replacement "System Restore" set of CD-ROM disks.
Probably about $20, plus $20 for overnight-courier.
Yes you can upgrade to windows xp on this pc, unless there are things she wants to keep on the pc, you can just adjust the bios to boot from cd, insert the disk into the cd rom and run the xp installation, you can choose to keep the files from the previous windows in your case millenium or choose a clean install, this will be up to you. good luck and tell me how it goes.
Check you'r jumpers ei master slave. and all cables are hooked up right, power hook up are fully in. you may have to up date win xp. sp 2-3 so on. enter cotroll panel. system. hardware tab. device manager. look under dvd/cd-rom drivers if they are listed there 1st try to update the drivers. if that don't work then uninstall all of the dvd/cd roms listed there. then restart you'r computer. on the re start win xp install wis. shold find the roms and install them and update them. if that don't work you'll have to call the microsoft free help line. this is what they had me do when I had the same problem. you may in the end have to wipe and re install window, sorry to say. hope this helps you
This happens so much with upgrades! We think we are making our pc's better, and then find it doesn't like it. I am assuming you completely uninstalled millenium, then tried to load xp? If you did not, the registry still has parts of millenium on it, and is asking for this. You need to completely uninstall millenium first. You need to obtain mill copy, and select uninstall, then when done, put in your new xp disk and try again. Lilacgerry xxx
