Question about Cameras

1 Answer

I have a Canon PowerShot A550. I was resetting some of my features and accidentally pushed format. As you know, that automatically erased all my pictures. I had some very important pictures on there that I wanted to keep. Isn't there a recycle bin or something so that you can retrieve your pictures? It would be a shame if, because of human error, I lost all of my pictures. Please advise. Thank you, Dottie

I took about 150 pics of my kids, x-mas party last night and x-mas this morning of my 2 boys, one of which is his first x-mas.  My battery was running low, have a Canon Power Shot S5 1S, and I was fooling with some of the setting and format.  When I replaced the batteries I noticed only some pics were gone but not all.  I fooled some more which was stupid and lost everyone of my pics.  Can I get them back?

The only way to retrieve after a format is to use a recovery software that does that type of thing. It does not have a recycle bin and even if it did a format removes everything. the only way to recover is using a software such as the one at www.cdroller.com You can go over the features of the software so you understand what it does.

For the Canon PowerShot A550, card is locked

Pop the card out of the camera- there's a tiny switch on the card that locks it so you can't write over important photos.  Move the switch to the other position and you should be good.

Canon powershot a550 lens cover damaged can this be replaced

It might. You can possibly repair this yourself with the existing parts if they're all still there. Please see this blog article discussing repair of automatic lens covers.

I accidentally pressed the formatting button on my digital camera, canon powershot SD790 IS. Not knowing it erases all pictures. My question is can i get my pictures back, and if so how?

The answer is it depends on whether or not you conducted a "low level" format or not. Such a format will actually write over the card making photo recovery unlikely. But with Canon cameras, format is normally a quick erase (which is recoverable), UNLESS you manually check the "low level format" box in the menu (did you do that?). But either way, there are numerous freeware software options available for photo recovery that may work for you.
Take no more pics until you've recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for:

I keep getting an memory card error message on my canon PowerShot

try doing a format with the camera. there should be an icon of a wrench in the menu--in this sub menu you will see "format." this action will erase anything on the card. i actually had the same problem with a canon camera, and this worked for me. Sometimes new flash cards are not compatible off the shelf--they need to be formatted. You should have at least flash cards to be sure card is not defective. Let me know if this helps!

Remote shooting on Canon PowerShot A550

The software that comes with the A630 is generic to the whole series of cameras with different capabilities. Some have this feature, and some, like the A500 - A600 series, do not. Do not feel bad though. Many of the cameras that do have this capacity cannot do the photo-stitch picture merging that your camera does.
