I do not know how it happened, but the display on my widescreen monitor is now about an inch smaller on the left and right side. The display is now square. How can I fix that? I am not sure of the exact model of my LG monitor

The resolution of the desktop has been changed. Go to Start , Control Panel, Display, Properties and from there change it to the correct one - it's listed as the default resolution in the user manual of your monitor. If you don't have the manual just try all the resolutions available until you find one that fits and looks well.

Samsung screen is not calibrated properly. There is a line on the right side of the screen that I can't get rid of.

Unfortunately the line didn't show up in the video.

1) New LCD screen?
Should have an Installation CD Disk that comes with it. Use it if so.
Has the Drivers on it.

Driver: Small piece of software that allows the Operating System to communicate with a device.

Don't know which version of the Windows O/S you have.
The device in this case is the LCD monitor.

2) What is the NATIVE screen resolution for the LCD monitor.
Look up the specs on the monitor using it's Model Number on back.

For example I installed an HP 2009M 20-inch widescreen monitor, along with the 26-inch RCA ENV HDTV I use for a monitor.

I had to use the drivers from the disk, but could still not set the native resolution in Display Properties.
There is an alternate resolution to the native one that can be used.
The drivers from the disk made it so.

The 20 inch widescreen is 1600 x 900 (Pixels)
The 26 inch HDTV is set at 1360 x 768 (Pixels)

Right-click on an empty area of your desktop screen.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
In the Display Properties window click on the Settings tab.

What is the Screen resolution setting? What is it supposed to be?
The Slider on the line is clicked on with the left mouse button, left mouse button held down; then the Slider is slid to the left to decrease screen resolution, or to the right to increase with the mouse.

Color quality should be set to High (32-bit)

1) Installing software (Drivers) from the Installation disk, (Or from the monitor manufacturers support website);
And,
2) Setting the screen resolution;

doesn't help, replace the monitor cable with a known to be good one.

Still no? Your LCD monitor is going out.

I just installed win7 and all mi icons are big, everything is big, please help me.

Right click on the desktop and go to personalize. Down in the bottom left corner click Display. Choose smaller 100%. If this is already checked, Right click on the desktop and click screen resolution. Pick a higher resolution and click apply. The higher the number the smaller everything will get, For Example. 1280x 720 is much smaller than 800 x 600

Left side is dark, you can still use the right side fine but the left side icons are almost not visible

THIS SHOWS THAT THE PROBLEM IS IN THE LCD BACKLIGHT. 30'' INCH LCDS MOSTLY CONTAINS TWO RODS OF LIGHTS. YOR ONE ROD IS WORKING FINE. REPLACE THE SECOND ONE WITH NEW ROD.

My screen is x X y inches. The windows page doesnt fit into it. There is one inch of black space on the monitor on the left and one inch of my windows screen is lost on the right!!!!!!!

With the on-screen controls, select Auto-Adjust. This should set suitable defaults based on the incoming signal. If you are using the VGA connector and the position still needs to be adjusted, use the on-screen controls to shift the displayed image to the proper location (under Display Settings -> Horizontal Position).

Round things are shaped like eggs

This is a widescreen monitor. To get the display to look right, you need to install the software that came with the monitor, and set the resolution to the manufacturer's recommended setting (the monitor's "native resolution"). I don't know what that is for the AL1917W. I have the AL1917, not the widescreen. A friend got a 21-inch widescreen and had the same trouble as you until we set it to the proper resolution. (And it looks great and I'm jealous!)

Picture is not centered on monitor leaving a 2 1/2" black border on Philips LCD

I have a Philips 30 inch LCD and solved the problem by using the circular arrow button on the TV remote. Pointing it at the TV and clicking "right" (3 o'clock on the button), the picture moved right. Same thing on for "left". Worked for me.
