The bike has sitting for 19 months in the garage and it doesn't start with one try, it doesn't seem to be running on all cylinders either. what could cause this and how could I fix this?

My guess is your fuel has gone off drain tank and replace fuel with at least 95 octane (do not use E10) you also may need to replace fuel filter which is under the tank and clean carby bowls

SOURCE: What causes premature wear in the rings and bore of BMW K75s?

the K75 has very reliable engine .. its unusual for it to fail in this way .. the frozen rings would suggest overheating and thats possible if the radiator fan fails (that happens often before your 80,000) .. many of the pre 1990 k75s would smoke after storing for awhile .. that was a ring gap positioning problem .. that was corrected in newer models .. the smoke however would not have damaged the cylinders .. maybe in the extreme could foul a plug .. is it possible that someone put something in your gas tank ??.. or could it have been run without oil/water or perhaps the wrong type oil (like transmission fluid) ... that engine should have lasted longer than most cars .. nice smooth bike ..

Classic dirty carb problem. You will need to pull the carb off. Soak it in a gallon carb cleanerwstariner($15)-available most auto parts stores. Get a set of torch tip cleaners($5) at Lowes/HD. A can or two of carb cleaner spray. And a good source of compressed air with rubber tip air nozzle. Best to let it set for atleast 2 days in the cleaner. Bottom out any adjustable screws and right down # of turns for easy assembly. Pay attention to all the little air/fuel circuits theres even 1 in the float bowl that does a hard 180 thats tough to get clear. Thats where those torch tip cleaners will come in handy. Blow every circuit with air---watch out for any orings stuck in the carb they wiil fly across the room never to be found again. You usually can reuse the all gaskets so no parts needed.

It's probably because the gasoline that was in the tank and the fuel system had ethanol in it. I have found that if you let that fuel sit for more than a few months it seems to dry up and crystallize - plugging the jets and ports in your carburetor. (assuming your bike had carburetors). The solution isn't pretty - if you have carburetor(s), you have to tear them down and clean everything thoroughly. Cleaner is available at your auto parts store. If you are not handy, you probably don't want to tackle it. Lots of very small parts.....

2007 kawasaki Ninja 250r Cranks but wont startt

It sounds like the float needle valves are lletting gas run into the bowl,in turn running gas into the motor, and fouling the spark plugs. Have you noticed if the oil level seems to be going UP,or the fuel level is going down? Kawasaki motorcycles are prone to leaking needle valves in the carbs for some reason. And the longer it sits, the worse its going to get.Try this,...pull the spark plugs and see if they are wet with fuel. Then, unhook the coils, and spin the motor over with the plugs out.If it shoots raw fuel about a foot out of each or ANY cylinder, then that is your problem. JUST BE SURE TO DISABLE THE COILS BEFORE SPINNING MOTOR OVER,AND DONT BE CLOSE TO THE PLUG HOLES WHEN YOU SPIN IT OVER!!
Good Luck!

When riding in 5th gear starting losing cylinders. and bike dies? then bike won't start electrical start. can' roll bump start bike if i let sit for an hour. thn bike dies quickly. is my m

More likely to be your ignition coils. They heat up and expand this can cause an open circuit which will close up again when it has cooled down. Although, a bad charging system may cause this problem. Check the battery voltage with engine switched off ( approx 12 volts) and with the engine running (approx 14 volts) If you are getting 14 volts then your battery is dead, if you aren't, then your charging system has a fault.

Bike has a bad hesitation when you go to take off what is the problem are my carbaraters dirty or somthing? does my bike need a tune up or somthing

A tune up would be the first course of action if the bike has any appreciable mileage and hasn't been tuned before. If you run the bike regularly (ie. don't let it sit for months at a time) and the tune up doesn't solve your problem, the carburetors could just need an adjustment. If the bike has sat for a long time, the carbs may need to be removed and cleaned from gum and varnish residue.

I am trying to start a1987 1100sportster had running once for about half hour was popping thru carb and tailpipe tried adjusting carb helped sum i went start and now it wont.

There could be any number of reasons for the problem that you described. Your spark plugs could be fouled. Sportsters are very sensitive to this and they are notorious for not want to "clear themselves up" like Big Twins will do. Check your plugs to see if they're fouled.
Next, how long has the bike been sitting? If it has sat up for over three or four months, the carburetor is probably gummed up on the inside due the fuel in the float bowl evaporating and leaving the "varnish" behind to plug up the jets in the carb. You need to take the carb off and thoroughly clean it inside. Then, what type of carb do you have on the bike? You say you adjusted the carb but what did you adjust. If you have the stock carb, gently bottom the idle mixture screw then come back out about 1 1/2 turns. If it's an S&S carb, gently bottom the mixture screw and come back out about 3/4 turns. This is a good starting point for the adjustment on either carb. Make sure you've got fresh fuel in the tank as well. Old fuel just won't run right and todays fuel doesn't last but about 6-9 months before it's flat. Be careful about running the engine for times over 15 minutes from a cold start without a fan or something blowing on it. Sitting still and running for extended periods of time can overheat the top end.

Good Luck

I'm buying my friend's Goldwing 1200, 1986 FI. Bike has been garaged for 4yrs and I tried to start it with new battery but won't start but it cranks, has gas.

Check the kill switch rock it back and forth to be sure it is making contact. Open it up and spray it with contact cleaner that is safe for plastics available at radio shack. After sitting for four years I would start with the fuel system. New filter and NEW GAS and check the fuel lines for cracks and leaks. I have seen bikes that sat for 6 months and needing the carburetors cleaned and reset.

Fuel injected right? Sounds like you have some fuel injector issues now that the gas has varnished them up. Use stabilizer in the fuel anytime the bike will sit that long without being ridden.

Wont fire turns over faster than normal

if you still havent started the bike yet from sitting.then i dont think the choke has anything to do with your problem.but ether way take the plugs out.I think your piston rings are frozen from sitting.did u winterrize it?with the plugs out pour a little auto trans fluid in each cylinder.very little.now crank the bike over to coat the cylinders. becareful it could be messy now let the bike sit overnight.the next day crank bike over again.but this time for a few tries.then install fresh plugs.and try to start it.p.s there will be white smoke from the transmission fluid. that will go away in a couple of minutes.then all should be good.
