1991 Mazda Miata 1.6l timing belt broke.

You need to purchase a Haynes Manual or better. They are very common in your nearest chain part store. Like Autozone, Advance, Napa. More than likely you will have to set the crankshaft at TDC. "top dead center" and allign the two marks with the cam shaft! Watch when you put tension on the belt it will move the camshaft sprocket! And throw it back out of time.

How do I put the serpentine belt back on a 1998 saturn sl2 after I have installed a new alternator

there is a little stick man illustration sticker under the hood showing how to release belt tension by moving the tensioner arm. if the serpentine belt is still on the lower pulley then put the belt on everything except the tensioner, then move the tensioner arm as needed, put the belt in there and release the tensioner arm. most likely going to need two people to do this.

if the belt has come off the lower pulley then you are going to have to remove the service panel behind the right front wheel and put the belt back on lower pulley, then do as above described. this would be a great time to put a new tensioner, a new serpentine belt, and a new "dog bone" motor mount on as it will all be right there to work on with that service panel out.

Timing belt broke...was told i need new engine..is this right?

The 2.4L four has a belt and is not an interference engine according to the Gates timing belt application chart for your vehicle (check it out on Gates.com.) The 2.7L V-6 doesn't show that it needs a belt--so it has either a timing chain and gears or just gears. If the belt broke on the 2.4L four, you should be able to put on a new belt and go. The engine should not be damaged.

If the timing chain on the V-6 broke then engine damage may have occurred. Chain engines are sometimes not listed as interference because breaking a chain is so rare. The damage would probably be bent valves and damaged piston tops. The labor involved in repairing all that might cost more than just getting a rebuilt engine and putting it in.

The serpentine belt broke on my2002 subaru outback

There is a distinct possibilty there is engine damage caused when the belt broke. It is best not to turn the engine at all once this happens. Sometimes you can be lucky and there be no damage. Let's hope that's so in your case. These belts are supposed to be replaced every 100,000km.

THE BELT THAT DRIVES THE BRUSH FOR THE CARPET BROKE'

OK - so you need to instal a new one! But before that, two questions: first - why did the old belt break? second - is your DC07 a model with or without a clutch?
Belts rarely break from simple old age; the usual problem with this vac is that the bearings in the brush roll get sticky, so it doesn't revolve freely. If this is the problem, it can sometimes be alleviated with a spray lubricant, but the only long term solution is to instal a new brush roll.
As for the clutch - if it's got one, there's a knob towards the front right of the floor unit. If it has one, the drive belt is integral with the clutch, and the whole unit has to be changed. If it has no clutch, then installing a new belt is simple. For excellent illustrated guidance, go to www.dysonmedic.com
