Question about HP Jornada 540 Pocket PC
My 540 battery is dying and I want to transfer my contacts to my Windows XP laptop. Activesync has backed everything up, but the information can't be used in that format. The menu for direct file transfer says that "contact" is not installed on the laptop (and there is no checkbox next to it in the menu)and I cannot tranfer the contact information directly. I can't find the contact program anywhere to install on the laptop and I can't get those files to transfer. Is there a way to get the contact information into Outlook Express or my address book in the laptop? Or, where can I get an XP version of the Contacts program? Also, how long does it take to get a battery replaced? This one has to be sent in to service just for replacement. That was certainly not a user friendly design feature... Any ideas would be appreciated

The Jornada 540 should have come with Outlook 2000. It works fine in Windows XP. When you Sync your computer and Jornada 560, the contact information should transfer from one to the other until both have the same contact information. Under the Tools pulldown on Activesync, select Options. Sync Options allows you to sync your Contacts by checking the box next to it. The next time you sync, all of your contacts from your 560 will be in your Outlook. When you get your battery replaced, just sync again and all of the contacts in your Outlook should transfer back to your 560. The other option is to get a Compact Flash memory card and backup your info onto that. Its much easier. Simply restore your info from your memory card when the battery is replaced. Hope that helped you.
