Question about IBM ThinkPad T43 Notebook
I received a ThinkPad Laptop from the college I attended a few years ago... Just yesterday, I was using the laptop but put it down to attend to something. When I came back, the screen was black and nothing would show up. I was confused because the last time I checked (recently), I had about 30% power left on the battery. I just decided to plug it in for the night. I tried it this morning and when I pressed the power button, all I hear is a "click" "click" "click" noise and the battery symbol flashes. The laptop will not turn on. I took the battery off and put it back on and when I pressed down the on button, it first seemed like it was going to turn on, because another symbol next to the battery symbol was lit up (I think it looked like a "Z" symbol with a circle around it) but my screen never turned on. I just heard the fan going. I held down the on button and the computer shut off completely (no fan, no symbols lit up). When I tried to start it again by pressing the on button, the clicking started again with the battery icon flashing. Does anyone know what this is? I have important info on my laptop? Thanks.
Oh, since I just stumbled along this site and I am not sure I would be able to find it again, can you email me at: Shesmyangel99@hotmail.com and if that doesn't show up it is (Shesmyangel99 and that is @ a hotmail address. (Some website's don't allow email addy's to be left on it.
The two most common causes fot this on the IBM machines are the battery and the memory. Start be removing the battery and starting with the power supply only. Then remove the memory and try each chip one at a time in each slot. If these don't work, then I'm afraid a component has failed in the power management system on the motherboard. Failed power management systems are also common with these, but not as common as a battery or memory failure. If it's the power management system, unfortunately, the motherboard will need replaced.
