Question about NAD C325BEE Amplifier

1 Answer

Sound cuts off

My NAD C325BEE amplifier sound cuts off after 15 minutes. If I switch it off for half an hour or so, then switch back on the sound returns - but cuts off again after 15 minutes! Anyone got any ideas?

Hi, thank you for your response. The amp sits on top of a metal cabinet situated indoors. I connected it to another hi fi system in another room on a wooden cabinet to see if the problem was caused by external factors. It still cut out after 15 minutes. I also tried a Rotel amp on both the hi fi systems and there was no problem. Clearly it is the NAD that is at fault.

    Does this help?

I don't recall the light going into red, I'm certain it stays green.  The amp just stops playing. Switching it off and back on again does not do the trick. If I leave the amp off for a few hours it will work fine until about fifteen minutes later...then back to square one. The amp gets warm but no more than I'd expect.

    Hi dtaylor91

Yes I think you are right. I already anticipated this and have given the amp to a friend of a friend who works at the BBC. He is going to try and locate the fault. Strangely enough, the first friend tried the amp at his house and there was no fault at all. I sent the amp to him by UPS and wonder if vibration caused by the journey dislodged the problem. Maybe it was caused by a dead bug in the works. Who knows...I will see what the BBC guy comes up with!

    Thanks for your help.

Ok, gotcha. Now, does it go into protect (red power light), or just shut down?

    Hi,
Where is the amp located? Cabinet, out in the open, etc.

Hi Chris... Have you found out the problem? I am also having the same problem with my NAD 325BBE... The sound just died off after 10-15 minutes. There is still sound by you have to crank up the volume knob up, but still the sound is soft and distorted.

OK,  That means there's some kind of crazy fault in the temperature sensing circuits. I'm afraid you'll have to take it someplace and have it looked at for a more thorough diagnosis.

Connect imac to amplifier

e4228d3d-a132-463b-8916-f7c5307ccb67.jpgI have looked at an image of NAD rear and it has RCA type jacks. I would plug it into the AUX sockets. Now to if it will work. Plug some stereo headphones into the iMac socket. If you can hear sound then the cable you intend to buy will transfer the sound you hear to the amp. If you want to record from the amp to your computer you will need another a different input on your computer and that would need to be connected to tape 1/2 out.
Any 3.5mm socket to RCA will do, they are not expensive plenty of cheap ones on Amazon and E-Bay (image shown). You will need two if you do want to record as well.

NAD C325BEE AMP - no audio. Audio o/p IC's measure ok.

trace the signal into those ic's, if there is input then the outputs aren't working unless of coarse you have no supply to them, then they wouldn't output sound.

Hi, i have a nad c325 bee amp and i have a problem with hooking up speakers. I have just the tiniest amount of sound coming out so there's some signal there. I have tried different speakers so i know its...

Before you continue, turn the volume DOWN. If you can't hear it at mid-volume there's no sense in spinning the volume knob higher. You'll only endanger your ears and speakers if you suddenly resolve the switch or whatever is the problem.

Are all sources acting the same?

Check these things (from the manual):

Tape Monitor selected?

Muting?

Headphones inserted?

Jumpers missing between Pre-Out / Main In?

BTW: the manual is available at retrevo.com

NAD 3150 doesn't play any sound

I, too, have the 3150 and have experienced problems with it. With me the INPUT knob is touchy and needs micro turns sometimes to get both channels to come through. Also, it sounds like the pots are dirty as I get a scratchy sound while adjusting the knob. I have been told that these units are great middle of the road audiophile units. Actually, for the price of a used unit you can't do better. I just had an NAD 2400 THX amp delivered today and am using the 3150 as a preamp. My girlfriend is not feeling well and sleeping in the bedroom, though, and I can't listen to it :( The few minutes I heard of Steely Dan's Cousin Dupree made me bout **** myself (until I got the dirty looks). Sorry I wasn't more help! Goooooo NAD!

Need user manual for setup of the amplifier.

It should say next to the speaker terminals what impedance of speaker the amplifier is rated for. You can drive any speaker within reason with just about any amplifier as long as you are not trying to attain loud levels. Here is a link to the service manual for your amplfier. It states in the schematic power ratings for 2,4, and 8 ohm speakers so you can assume that this amplifier is compatible with those impedance speakers. NAD is generally known for their beefy amplifier sections. http://www.scribd.com/doc/7234868/NAD-3020-Service-Manual

Hi  I have a C325 BEE and it turns off after 15 min What can I do ?

It sounds like the CD player is going into standby mode. When this happens it is usually a power supply issue. Look for bad capacitors or solder joints in the power supply. If you don't know what a bad cap or solder joint looks like, take it to a NAD repair shop.
