If your camera is still under warranty, the best thing you can dois to take it to the nearest official Olympus repair shop and Olympus Digital Cameras shouldfix it for free.

If your camera is out of warranty, or if Olympus refuses to repairit for free (happens sometimes if for example they suspect the camera has not been treated properly) you can try some ofthe methods listed here to repair it yourself. These simple methodshave helped a lot of people fix their cameras.

Before trying any of the suggestions, make sure your Olympus Digital Cameras has fresh batteries and it is in recording mode.

1) Remove the batteries from the camera, wait for a couple of minutes, then put them back in and turn the camera on.

2) Try compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun and drycompressed air (20 lbs) set the tip between the lens turret and thecamera body and turn on the air while moving the tip around the lens.It should remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on and it shouldfunction fine.

3) Another method is to tap the padded USB cover part on a hard surface, for example, a desk. It sounds so simple, but veryoften in works.

4) Try forcing the camera lens:

Turn off the camera. Place it on the back with the lens facing up and take a look at the spacing between the lens and the lens housing. If you notice that the gap is not even all the way around the lens, the problem should be easy to fix. This type of a problem usually occurs if the camera was dropped while the lens was extended.

Simply - VERY GENTLY - press down the lens on the side where the gap is the biggest. You should hear a "click" as it pops back into place. Try powering the camera back on.

If the lens doesn't extend at all or it extends, and then retracts again, do the following. Turn the camera off. Take the camera in one hand and with the other gently take one part of the lens and gently move it round in a circular movement. Do so with both sections of the lens. You will hear a "click" as it pops back in place. Power the camera on.

Another version of this fix would be to pull and twist on the largest ring of the lens while turning the camera on. Listen for a "click". If at first the focus seems to be off, turn the camera on and off and take lots of pictures, close ups and distance. Focus should slowly start improving.

5) If that doesn't work, there is an online guide for dismantling Olympus Digital Cameras and fixing the E18 error. (NOTE: Try this only if your camera is no longer under warranty!)It is a great guide with pictures and it can be found here.

There are 2 other guides, one Bulgarian and one Estonian with the take apart procedure for Canon cameras. They are not in english but have a lot of pictures which help with the process.

- Bulgarian guide
- Estonian guide

Hope this may help you;

It's a sensor issue, unfortunately. Caused by sand or dirt in lens cover machanism. Simple fix is to turn on camera while holding it with the lens pointing UP. Get some canned air and blow it out real good. If that doesn't work, understand that the average cost of a camera repair is around $180. As such, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth.

Hope that helps..........

    Have you tried updating or re-flashing the firmware of your camera? What is the exact model and brand of your camera? Try to visit the manufacturer's site and check if there's any firmware available for you camera.

    If all else fail, there might be some mechanical problem on the camera itself and only the authorized camera service center can fix it.

Hi,

Initially, let's try a hard reset by removing the battery. Let it be without batteries for a couple of minutes to about an hour. Thereafter re-insert battery and try again. Additionally, pls verify that the battery is fully charged

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Will not Auto focus is there any thing I can do? I have tried all focus settings and no luck. I can focus a picture by using the Zoom out.

Try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Initialize the Camera.
MENU-->SETUP-->SETUP1-->Initialize.

2.Power reset the Camera.
Remove the battery of the Camera for atleast 1 minute.

This should resolve the issue.

Canon Ixus 75 Auto Focus fails. It appears to be trying to focus and the small box appears on the screen showing where it it trying to focus. I think it's always focussing very close up. Macro is not set....

This usually happens when there's not enough contrast between the subject and the background or the subject itself is too 'flat'.

Also if there's not enough light in 'flash off'-mode you cannot focus. Try using the focusing assist light.

Cant take photos and lense dosn't focus. lcd shows " E : 61 : 00 " and its blinking

I'm sorry that the camera is not turning ON. Please make sure that the battery is fully charged. Check if you are able to access the Menu. If yes, then, please Initialize the camera under settings 1 Menu. If you are not able to access the menu, you may have to power reset the camera by removing the battery and press n hold the power button for 1 minute continuously. After that leave the button and insert the battery and check if it helps. If the issue still persists, your camera will require service.

Retry turn the power on by the power switch. If it does not

Focus error show up and can't take any pictures

Had "FOCUS ERROR" appear on my Finepix S9500. The lens seemed to be stuck at the extremity of focus range. I resorted to hitting the camera on a table while turning it off (because this is when it sounded as though the focus motor was trying to move the lens back). Guess what? It worked!!!!!
