PEAVEY ECOUSTIC 112 W/ NO SOUND ----muted?

Yesterday I was playing through my amp and it was working fine. I have had the "Pre-amp Out" jack in the back of the amp hooked up to my Behringer PA so that I can hear a little of my guitar playing through the PA while I sing.
Yesterday I unplugged the cord attached to the "Pre-amp Out" jack because I was going to use the cable for something else. Then, when I tried playing my guitar again - there was no sound. When you turn this off though you can hear the amp "Thump" through the speaker, so I do not think it is a speaker problem - PLUS all lights are on.
The one thing that I CAN find on the Peavey website regarding this is the following statement, "A single button‚ shielded footswitch used in the preamp out jack can be used to mute the amplifier."

BUT---that is the ONLY reference to this..so what I am worried about is that it is now set in MUTE with no way to get it back unmuted...Please help - I use this for my church and need this more than you will ever know

Thank You

I also opened it to make sure all of the connections were connected and all seems to be in order.

I checked the guitar cable with my PA and it works fine. I played the guitar through the PA because I thought it also might be the guitar.

i tried replacing the fuse and it does not seem to be that. Also, my guitar does work on other amps.

I do not see a master reset. I opened it yesterday and there does not seem to be a wire loose. If you turn it all the way up you can hear a slight humm through the speaker. Just no cable sound from ANY cable or instrument or MIC.

I checked the speaker and there is nothing wrong with it. I tried to re-create what I did unhooking it from the p.a. and nothing. When I opened it, there was only one fuse I could see, so I replaced it with another of the same kind. Should there be another? I cannot beleive no one has had this happen.

I could not see anything burnt at all inside. Also, I do not ear any scratching when I press in on the speaker and there is really no sound whether I plug in anything or not. I can hear electricity ( very faint) but this is whether I plug something in or not.

I stopped working while I had it on I thing, but I had it down low.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Tune/Cal: This switch turns on the built-in tuner for approximately 60 seconds. Press a second time while playing a note and this pitch will become the calibration point for operation (handy when tuning to an ?out-of tune? instrument). During the tuning operation the guitar output will be muted. If you finish tuning prior to the 60 second timer returning the tuner to idle (and un-mute), you may press this button again to manually return the preamp to normal operation

Thanks
Good Luck

Hi,

Pls check the internal contacts of the pre-amp out jack. It simulates a switching action. It may be necessary to clean/scrape/bend them to restore operation.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

This is an amp problem maybe it is cold or crack solder joint of the parts. It needs to reworks the solder so it will works normally,it would be much cheaper and quicker for you to take the amp to a
qualified repair shop and pay the price for a competent repair.

Hope this may help;

I have not heard of the use of the pre-amp out as a switch as this is just a cutoff from the internal amp section. I assume that this pre-amp out is a 1/4" connector. These are switched internally such that when the jack is used to send sound to an amp, the internal amp is disabled. The thumping you hear is caused by the amp section. This essentially means that the amp is working as expected. Can you please post the model number that is on the metal plate? With that I can look up the service manual and try to explain this.

Make the PA act like a foot-switch, re-insert the cable. might do the trick.

else you gotta look for a foot-switch.

. unplug and plug back in. hit the master control reset. if this doesn't solve the problem. take the back panel off.(don't do this if it voids a warrenty). check for a loose tube or chip on the main board. also make sure a loose wire has not come off the pre-amp out jack.

as i stated your main board has a glitch and should be replaced by a music store tech they have the schematics and the replacement for you board. anything else is just a guess. you amp heats up and over time the heat causes the tube or chip connections to fail good luck

Ok so you amp is tha problem.
    >You can try 2 things that should help
    (1) do you have a plug or and adapter (mono/stereo) that you can plug into another device to test the (AMP)

Example: A another Gutiar or A keyboard or any other Audio device and hooked it to the amp. "this may tell you if the phone input is bad or loose" also wiggle the plug too to see if that cuts off the sound.

    (2) Caution> only if you feel comfortable unscrewing the AMP/SPEAKER
You can remove the speaker cover/grill and carefully pull it out to see if the connection are loose or if the COIL is BLOWN and if any thing is wrong you will smell a bunrt smell

And if that is ok unscrew the control panel/phone jackes EQ and check the connections there too

    Jayson Brollini Aug 31, 2008

Ok that sound like the crossover is maybe the problem,
You have open up the AMP and look at the internal board.
look for a small fuse on the board or look near the heatsink.
    > Look for a pop/burned resister
    >Did you have the AMP on when it went off and DID you CRANK .
    > TEST 1:TRY to gently push the front of the speaker using two hand and applying even pressure to see if you hear any scratching (unnplugged the AMP for this test) NOTE: do not touch the center of the speaker(dust cover of the cone/woofer)

    >TEST 2: Follow the same instructions but turn the AMP (ON)
turn it up half way and plug the GUTIAR OR any INSTRUMENT that will give you a continuing audio sound. NOTE: This test will tell you if the speaker is blown or fixable. you do not need to apply a great deal of pressure just make sure in is even pressure. push the speaker in untill you can hear the sound (it should get louder)

THIS is not as common as I thought I am really looking. Do you have the manual and under the Bypass there should be a page on the mute release.

Unfortunatly, there could be a few different causes for this and without the amp in frony of me it would be impossible to diagnose it. The best bet would be to have a qualified repairman look at it. Here is a link to the Peavey Contact page which has a link to their service centers.

Overdrive is the key to the crunchy metal sound. The only effect on that amp is reverb.
You may want to consider getting an overdrive pedal to get the sound you want.

then i'm afraid that your main board has a glitch that you can't repair. take it to a music shop they have the neccessary parts to repair this problem and they have the schematics that will show them which chip is faulty. i'm not sure how long you have had this amp but over time the heat causes the chips or tubes to fail. that is the best answer i can give you at this time anything else would just be a gues and a waste of time. good luck
