Question about Welding Equipment

Dymo M1011 Hi, I have a Dymo M1011 and when we opened it to clean it, two little pieces falled out and we don't know how to replace them. It's a little piece with a little hole at one extremities and another one who makes a loop. Thanks, Pam

make sure you have a good enough ground on your work-piece. try putting a chunk or strip of metal on or closer to your work-piece to get better current.

Tip

Welding helmet lens covered with spatter?


Is your welding helmet glass dark lens covered with spatter from welding and need replacement often? Cut a piece of 1/16" (1.5mm) clear perspex to the same size as the lens and install this in front of the dark glass. Spatter does not adhere to the perspex and the glass lens will be protected indefinitly.

Welder is not sending strong arc


maybe its your volts too. make sure you are grounded properly and clean from debri's, strike the electrode like a match and keep the arc close to your work-piece. dont go too fast and make sure your not wearing to strong of a lens in your hood. gold lens number 10 are the best for 7018 rods.

Have a Miller big 40 welder and the engine won't turn over


I'm not familiar with this particular unit--do you mean to say that the cooling system froze during the winter? If so, and the engine has overhead valves, the cylinder head, block, or both may have cracked causing water to leak into the cylinders which would have rusted the rings and cylinder walls (together). You are looking at major overhaul or even engine replacement (not what you were hoping). Good luck!

Weld a new near side panel on a ford transit or a data sheet with sizes or any relevent infomation


Buy a quarter panel from a junk yard that you want to replace tell the junk yard where you need it cut and tell them all of it that you need then using a pair of nibblers cut out the area that you want to replace. To do this use a measuring tape to measure the area to cut out. Next get some 3/4 masking tape and run the tape along the lines that you want to cut. test cut a piece of metal to see how much the nibbler cuts out and how jagged it leaves the cut and figure this into what you need to cut from the piece from the junk yard. once it is taped off remove bumper, and any wires that might run threw the holes on the panel also remove fuel tank hose if it's in the panel you are replacing. Once its cut remeasure the 1/4 panel and grind any spots that might be to long then match the parts together. ON THE INSIDE OF THE PANNEL WHERE YOU CAN'T SEE IT WELD SOME TABS (Spot Weld) 3 or 4 tabs that will help you line up the two pieces together then slide it in place get one end lined up and a space of the wire you will use to weld it together once it is all lined up pull tape off and use a grinder or wire wheel to remove paint away from the area to be welded by 1 inch. Next start welding it together be careful not to weld one side more than another or yo will get warp age, also don;t let it get to hot. take your time welding it together be sure to get a solid weld be sure all holes that have to be lined up line up. after welding it together then grind it flat and used bondo to fill in and smooth out the welded edge prep with 2 part epoxy primer spray the bare metal and blend into the paint, this will show you if you have any areas to work on. THIS IS NOT A EASY JOB BUT CAN BE DONE. I have cut two cars in half and have welded then together and they were stronger than when they were new. but this requires knowledge of windshield repair and wheel alignment. good luck and if you need more help let me know so I can help you.

Have a 120 volt 70 amp stick welder what gauge or stick type do i use


1/16th stick to 3/32nd.
3/32nd being the maximum. Don't use 3/32 for an extended period of time, or you can burn up that welder. (Even if it has a fan. If it doesn't have a fan built-in, I invite you to put a house box fan, close to the ventilation slots for the welder)

I would also recommend using 6011 rod. It's a mild steel rod, and is excellent to begin with. Usually used for filling, and medium strength situations. It does splatter, be aware of that.

Not trying to give you a tutorial on beginning welding, but would like to offer some tips:

1.Make sure the ground clamp has a good, clean surface it's clamped to. If not, it will be very hard to get the rod started, and also to keep it going. (Makes bad welds too)

2.Start with a B U T T weld. (Had to type it that way do to censorship of certain words)
That's laying two pieces of metal next to each other, and laying a bead in-between them. Easiest thing to start with. Go to corner welds next, (Two pieces together at a 90 degree angle), then try Uphill welds.

3.Shield flipped up on helmet, welder on. Lay the rod past the area you are going to start on. Past the metal edge. Lay the ->flux coating of the rod on the edge of the metal piece. The tip of the rod is past the metal edge by at least two inches.

This way you are lined up to begin the weld. Then flip your shield down, draw the rod back, until the tip of the rod touches the metal. Once the arc starts, lift the rod up a little to get the correct height, and keep that arc going.

4.Watch the PUDDLE, not the arc! You are watching the melted metal in front of the arc. You need to see how that puddle is doing, in order to compensate by bringing the rod closer, or further away.

5.Use a Zig-Zag pattern to begin with. Keep the Zig-Zag close to each other, until you are comfortable enough to make a longer pattern. Watch the penetration. Good penetration is the key, not a pretty weld.

6.Use the proper safety equipment. If the welding helmet lens has a tiny little scratch, you will burn your eyes. NO fun, believe me!
You won't know it until you wake up the next day with your eyes swelled shut!

Cover your arms, and use welding gloves. Welders give can give you a radiation burn, worse than a bad sunburn. NEVER just start welding a little with No welding helmet. Welding goggles are for the birds, or Acetylene welding!

Puk 111 welding problem


Mine was doing the same, spoke with the technitions and they told me to undo the connector from the hand piece to the machine at the machine, you then need to disassemble this connector and look to see if one of the white wires is dissconnected, if so you need to carefully push the gold plated pin out the back of the connector towards the cable, solder the wire back on and reassemble and it should work.
If not contact the head office and they were very helpfull.

Hi, No compression means - The rings in the piston needs to be replaced, or the valves are stuck in the open or closed position. One or both of these is your problem.
