You can't start the computer remotely. The computer can start remotely if the BIOS is set to "allow Network devices to start computer" or similar actions. When the computer is booting up, usually you'll see an option to press F1, F2, Del, or another key to enter the BIOS. Make sure the settings are saved as you exit.

If the computer is in Sleep mode, just moving the mouse, or pressing a key could wake it. In that case, lock the cat out of the computer room.

Came home to find computer off. It was left in sleep mode. The moniter keeps saying there is no signal and the keyboard has no power.

If its truely in sleep mode, and won't come out of sleep mode. Unplug the computer from its power, hold the power button down for 5-15 sec, then wait 2-5 full minutes. Then plug it back in, and turn it on.
If that doesn't work it is NOT stuck in sleep mode. Most dell computers I've worked with the caps go out in the power supply and/or the motherboard. I would next clean out the computer with canned air, check the caps on the motherboard, and in the power supply. If there are any bad caps, replace them, and it should fix it. Hopefully though the above paragraph fixes your problem.

Sleep mode is a convenient power-saving feature used on both laptops and desktop computers. This feature powers down hard disks, monitors, wireless devices and any other power-consuming peripherals without turning the unit completely off and necessitating a reboot. Sleep mode can prevent battery drain if using a laptop or mobile device while away from the power supply. This mode is useful when quick access to a computer is needed, but can be irritating if the sleep mode takes a long time to come back from. It is simple to turn sleep mode off, based on the operating system being used.

Go to the "Start" button, then click on "Control Panel." In the control panel screen, click "System and Maintenance," then click on "Power Options." This brings you to the "Select a power plan" page. From the "Select a power plan" page, select the option that says "Change plan settings." This changes the settings on the currently selected plan. Select the "Change advanced power settings" option. Click "Sleep" and then click on "Sleep After" to expand it. If using a laptop or mobile PC, click "On battery" and "Plugged in," then select the "Never" option. This turns off sleep mode for both battery and AC use. If you are using a desktop computer, click "Setting," click the arrow and then click "Never" to turn off sleep mode. Click "OK," then click "Save changes" to save the modification. b> Turning Off Sleep Mode - Mac OS b> Click on the Apple logo at the upper left corner of the screen to open the menu and select the "System Preferences" option. From the "System Preferences" screen, click on "Energy Saver." If you are using a desktop, select "Power Adapter" in the top drop-down menu. In the second drop-down menu, select "Custom." Highlight the "Sleep" tab, then adjust the top slider to the far right, marked "Never." I f you wish the display to stay on, adjust the bottom slider to "Never." Click the red button on the upper left side of the "Energy Saver" screen. If you are using a mobile product or laptop, follow step 2 and select "Battery" from the top drop-down menu. Repeat step 3 to change the settings for battery use. Hope this helps.

Have a Pavilion Desktop HP with upgrade from vista to windows 7 ultimate. Turned the power on and no blue light and no monitor yet the fans were running. Computer monitor said no input and went back to...

Power supplies tend to be either working or not working. I would start with the computers memory, reseating the memory cards (there are plenty of tutorials on the web for how to do this). If the power supply fan was running, chances are you did not need to buy a new one. Does it do the same thing with the new power supply?

Vista will not come out from sleep mode ?

Disable sleep mode. Right click the desktop any where. Chose screen saver at the bottom chose change power settings and chose change when the computer sleeps. Set to never. Just turn it off when not in use. Next; check the MS window site for a fix, there is a download update if it is still posted.

I have a new HP 9430 desktop. When left running it will cycle down to a dormant state but the fan is running continually and it won't come back unless I pull the power and restart

What I believe is your problem is that your computer is going into a power saving mode called a "Sleep state".

If this is the case you should be able to "wake it up" by pressing the sleep button.

HP/Compaq usually put one on their keyboards. It has an icon on it the shape of a crescent moon and is usually labeled "Sleep" Press that to give your pc a wakeup call when it is asleep. Or if you want to put your PC to sleep to save power when it is awake.

If your like me you probably don't care for this feature. Fortunately it CAN be disabled easily. open the page you would use to change your screensaver. At the bottom of it is a smaller page with an "Energy star" logo in it.

This is your power settings control panel. From here you can adjust the settings so the "Sleep state" takes longer to kick in or disable it altogether.

You should also be able to find power settings in the control panel (But the path is different depending on which version of Windows you have" but it is always at the bottom of the screensaver panel.

Good luck
Dave
