Screen goes black and resets during HD shows

I do not have an HD DVD player. It only occurs on the TV on video input 5 which is the digital input for this TV. All other inputs video 1 - 4 use either the s-video or composite video (yellow) leads.

My TiVo Series 3 HD DVR has both HD and SD outputs. You are correct about using the analog (SD) output as an alternative, but I want to view the Verizon FiOS HD channels in high definition. The Sony set is 8 years old and Google searches has indicated that this is a known problem with this model. Since I did not have an HD cable box until about 4 years ago and when I first noticed the problem the TV was out of warranty. Also there were very few HD channels then. Now with so many HD cable channels it has been become a very annoying problem. My only alternative may be to purchase a new TV. I don't believe Sony will be responsive if call them.

I will look up your specific model tonight, please inquire to me directly tomorrow so I can update this without a time consuming search. If the problem is a known one by Sony, they will often waive the warranty expiration to resolve the problem. I can confirm whether or not an engineering upgrade was developed for this problem. I will assume that the model in question is KP-53HS10.

Another point; HD Ready does not mean that it is HD compatible without the addition of an optional part.
The title only implies that it can be adapted to HD reception.
If you did not purchase it with the set, check your user guide to see what you need to make it whole.
You may have to seek this add-on on eBay since it is not guaranteed that Sony will still offer it.

Are you on Cable service or Direct TV. Have you tried the analog signal? HDTV ready monitor can use a standard analog signal. Most HDTV ready tv's have analog tuners built into them, meaning you can use standard cable/over the air signals on them. They will not be high definition. You can use the analog hookup by hooking it to the coaxial antenna hookup, or, if you have a cable box, it may have a set of audio/video outs (the red-white-yellow rca plugs on the back) that you can use to hook up for a slightly sharper picture.

Tv is showing 480p and we want it at 1080p on our new Toshiba 40XV648 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz HD LCD TV Cinema Series.

After searching the owners manual I find that there is nothing mentioned about the screen resolution i.e. 480p to 1080p.

This set is capable of your desired resolution and as far as I can tell it auto selects because it senses the input video and decides which is the best setting for that source.

It's important to understand that you need 1080p video to use it at it's full capabilities. It won't give you a 1080p resolution from a VCR or a standard DVD player. You need a DVD player that is capable of producing a 1080p encoded video. Some satellite receivers are capable of that but you need to make sure you know what resolution that you are sending to the television.

Local TV stations won't usually broadcast HD at 1080p. Your best bet is to use a DVD player that is capable of that high resolution for your best picture.

Please note that what it says in the owners manual about "Resolution" has nothing to do with the 480p, 720p or 1080p signals, your set selects that automatically it will start by selecting the 1080p then goes to 720p then 420p it's dependent on the video you send to the set.

Please note the "resolution" function is actually like a "sharpness" control.

Your video input (tuner, VCR, DVD, games and etc.) is likely your problem.

Have you already tried to power cycle all the devices? Unplug the power cable on all your devices for about 1 hour then plug it back in. Check if that fixes it.

Prima HDTV has a black screen on TV, but works fine while Playing DVD

try turning the channel up or down with the tv remote to input 1 or 2 depending on which one is being used for the dvd player. tv should use input 1. dvd should be on input 2.
when turning the channel set it to show the dvd screen, then go up 1. if it doesn't show, return and go down 1.

Does the problem still persist without the Tivo connected? Try to isolate each devices that are plugged in. Try to watch a normal dvd first without the Tvio connected and see if the same problem occurs.

Frozen on a menu screen

Just fixed ours with the same problem. You need to hit the volume buttons on the remote during the time the screen goes black but BEFORE it gives you the "Connect cables" message. It should trick the TV into giving you a blank channel.

Sanyo TVs are made notoriously cheap, and have little glitches like this. Best of luck, space cowboy.
