Thanks, Bubbabear64, but the AC adaptor is putting out a solid 30vdc. I popped the front cover housing the switches and found nothing at the rear of the on/off switch. Acts like a blown fuse or open circuit breaker but I can see no signs of either. Toast?

Bubbabear64, thanks for your comments. It is always refreshing to get a second opinion before trashing something that looks like it ought to work. Now I'll see if I can find a new printer that can use all the old print cartridges....

Does your printer operate off of an AC adaptor? If it does it can be replaced very easily either through HP or you can find one at an electronic store like Radio Shack. They can test it there for you as well.

I have had that with deskjets in the past and yes they were toast when that happened. The electronics are pretty simple on them but usually more expensive to replace than to get a new printer.

Hello There this may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Printing tips for paper jam

<b>ThePaper Jam</b> Wehave all had this one happen. You are printing merrilyaway when all of a suddenyou hear that distinctive crunch of paper gettingeaten by your printer. Youimmediately cancel the print job, leap from yourdesk and flip open the printer."Ugh," you say as you notice the crinkled edgesof paper wrapped around godknows what. Okay, so you have found the problem, but what do you do? Thebest way to remove a paper jam is to gently pull thepaper in the direction ofthe paper path-with power off, of course. Whateveryou do, don not pull thepaper backwards. You could damage your printer foreverby doing so!

Printer reads:'the paper is jammed. Clear the Paper and press ok

Could be a broken or bent sensor inside, it happens when you pull out a paper jam sometimes. You need a shop to check it out, around $80.00 to repair.

Hp6210 says "Paper Jam. Clear Jam and then Press OK". There is no paper stuck in it, nothing visible at all.

Open the rear clean out cover and check for a jam. Or the rear clean out cover could just be off like mine was. I was get out of paper message. So I found a the HP help manual that there was a rear clean out. I reached around back and found that i twas off, I popped it back on and it works just fine now.

I would suggest removing the printhead, make sure there are no more dead roach's under the printhead, also make sure all lights on the ink tanks are lite up, the first error code you mentioned has to do with the ink tanks, the second one has to do with the printhead. I would suggest un-installing the printhead, then reinstalling it doing the alignment, and that should clear the error code.

Yes vintos after long storage problems with the printer heads may arrise.

Thermal changes from being in storage can cause the printer heads to dry up and fail.

DO NOT USE ALCOHOL or other solvents in an attempt to clear the printer heads.

1. Attempt to change ink cartridges , this may clear the issue.

If that fails , you may be forced to change printer heads at that point.

Re: paper jam in brother laser printer hl 2040 : paper red ligh continue to flash

Try shutting the printer completely down & unplug power. then plug power back in and while holding down all buttons on the printer control panel, turn it back on. this should put it into a self diagnostic mode that prints out just about everything the printer can do, including a sample page. Also, be sure all rollers are clean & trays are completely closed before restarting. If the printer works when you do this, you should most liely check all settings in the software package (driver) or perhaps reinstall the drivers. If this is necessary, be sure to download the latest drivers from the Brother website.
