GOto the iside unit itself. and remove the door and look for a terminial strip that the thermostat wires from the thermostat connects to and write down the colors wires and the letters they're connected to and connect the same to the thermostat .... they should be... r--red=power w-white=heat y--yellow=cool g-- green=fan! See which wires/ colors they're not using and bend back! Thank-you-very-much!

Carrier OEM to Honeywell Programmable Tstat - NEED HELP

you likely have a "two stage" system, but not a two stage heat pump. the first stage is probably the heat pump itself, and the second stage is the auxilliary resistance heat that suppliments the heat pump at lower temps. if i knew the terminals that are available on the new stat, i could advise you on the proper wiring.

Is this a heat pump? Look in the thermostat. You should have something like the following.
Red wire to R terminal
Green wire to G terminal
Yellow wire to Y terminal
White wire to W or W1
Blue or Orange wire to the O or B terminal
Brown wire to C terminal.

Let me know what you have in the thermostat. The wire colors are not always the same.

Thermostat

Heat pump Thermastats have Terminals RYW/OW2 G C. I run into this a lot with people buying tStats at home depot. To wire three sages of heat you must have correct tstat. one stage cool and three stage heat. You have to have enough wires at the Tstat. I use white first stage brown second and grey or black third. Make a diagram where each wire goes. Remember to trun of air handler power or you will short the transformer or blow low voltage fuse. Yellow cool, green fan, most of the time blue is c unless it is a battery tstat. orange is O. Red R ot power wire. Rusty

Wiring match-up

If this is a standard heat cool unit. You have a tstat with rygwcob. Just color code the wire to the unit. Some air handlers such as Rheem and carrier use different collors for there common Carrier black Rheem or Rudd Brown. Two wires that go outside use yellow blue. Yellow to Y fron Tsta and blue to common or blue,blavk or brown.or C

I have a carrier air/heating unit with pump. It has 8 wires. Brown,blue, white, yellow, green, black, orange,and red. I'm trying to install honeywell thermostat. The wires from my unit are suppose to go...

Turn the power off to the air handler. Open the control cover. Write down what color wires go together at the wiring terminal. All 8 wires are probably not used.
Post the findings here.
In most cases,
E= brown-emergency heat
AUX=white-auxillary heat to supplement HP
Y= yellow-to compressor for heat or cool(hp)
G=green-indoor fan
O-orange-reversing valve on HP when energized in COOL
L=t-stat light(probably not used)
R=red-24v incoming power
B=black-reversing valve on HP when energized in HEAT
C=blue-common wire for 24v
Only one of the "O" or "B" will be used. Not both.

Replace thermostat

Typical color codes in Florida are;
white to W1 for heat
yellow to Y for compressor
red to R-RC-RH for power in
brown to W2 and or emergency /auxillary heat
green to G or Fan
orange to reversing valve(o/b)
blue to common.
You can open the control panel on the unit to verify these colors and components.
