It is not recommended to replace the backlight unless you have a clean room. Doing so may introduce dust into the LCD panel module. The LCD panel module is held together by metal brackets with latches. You'll need to remove the two metal brackets that hold the sandwiched LCD panel modules together. The you will have access to the actual backlight. Older panel technology made it easy to slide out the backlight for replacement. Nowadays, they lock up the CCFL into the LCD panel module making it not really possible to do backlight replacements if you don't want to introduce dust into the system.
Look at the monitor at and angle from the top, bottom or side. You are looking for a faint picture of what you would usually see. You will need some good light to see this. If you do see a faint picture this means the backlight on the lcd is broken. I would get a new monitor, I would not recommend trying to replace the backlight.
Had same problem, Monitor first turn on, backlight off after couple of minutes, off/on backlight off after few seconds. Solution cut J503. Found voltage OVPT (IC501,7) quite low (1.6V) this is the reference value for VSEN the over voltage value. By cutting J503, OVPT becomes 4.5 volt but is not depending anymore on the current through the lamps. Instead of the link J503 I solder 2x 1N4148 diodes which makes the OVPT not go below 2,8 volt. (diodes in series, cathode points to nearest board edge)
Sounds asif the Xenon tubes that backlight the LCD are losing power. Probable cause, a power invertor or PSU fault.
It can be repaired by a hardware specialist, but best written off.
The cost of repair will be better spent on a new monitor.
