Magtag gas dryer model #MDG3000AWW Neptune. How do you pop the top up? I tried with a screwdriver and it would not move. I believe this was the first Neptune gas Dryer made. I need to get the drum so I can change a baffle. HELP!!

I have the same problem.  The drum baffle has come 'unscrewed' and we need to get to it to fix it.

This was a lot easier than I thought it would be.  One tip is to make sure that you pay attention to what screws and tabs come out in the exact sequence.  Putting back together is a lot more difficult than taking it apart.

You have to remove the front panel first to access the clip that holds the front of the top down. Instructions:

crosstip medium screwdriver
1/4 inch socket
5/15 inch socket

  1. UNPLUG DRYER
  2. TURN OFF GAS
  3. Disassemble by taking apart the FRONT of the dryer:

    a. Remove the door and opposite side door plugs (crosstip screws)

    b. Remove the front panel - this exposes sheet metal bolts (5/16 inch) some with crosstip on left and right of unit. Set panel aside (right side) WITHOUT unplugging wires

    c. Unscrew all the exposed bolts.

    d. Top bolts left and right secure the unpainted metal hooks which secures the top of dryer. Unscrew these bolts and wiggle the metal retainer hooks off. Lift top and support to create 6 inch gap in the front (top unit hinges in back and has electrical connections - do NOT disconnect wires)

    e. Release belt from pulley by reaching left and under drum (this is out of sight)

    f. gently lift out drum and belt and set aside
  4. This has exposed the interior.

Inside the drum, one of the metal things is loose. It appears that it is held on with screws, so they are probably loose. Could you tell me teh easiest way to access the outside of the drum so I can...

The top cover needs to be lifted to the rear of the dryer to access the outside of the drum and tighten the baffle screws. But before the top cove can be lifted, the front panel must be removed first. Disconnect power to the dryer prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.

Open the dryer door and remove the four screws located vertically along the inside lip of the door opening. These screws hold the front panel to the front shroud assembly.

Once the four screws are removed, grasp and press in on the upper edges of the front panel posts then twist it inward to release the clips holding it to the cabinet. Tilt the top of the front panel and move it away from the dryer.

The top cover is held on each side of the cabinet by two hold down brackets. Locate and remove the 5/16" hex-head screws holding each bracket then swing the bracket to the outside and unhook it from the slot in the top panel lip.

Open the door then lift the front of the top panel and tilt it toward the rear of the dryer.

Rotate the drum until the baffle screws are on top to tighten it. Reinstall the top panel and the front panel by following the removal steps in reverse order.

I HAVE A MAYTAG NEPTUNE GAS DRYER MODEL 3MDE3000AYE. ONE OF THE THREE PADDLES INSIDE THE DRUM CAME OFF. I AM TRYING TO REATTACH IT TO THE DRUM, BUT THE SCREWS HOLDING THE PADDLE ARE INSIDE THE DRUM.

unplug the dryer, open the door, remove the two screws holding the door on and remove the other two screws opposite them, take off the door and pull the front panel off, spin the drum until the baffle you are trying to repair is in the bottom right hand corner and you can get at it like that

My Maytag dryer has a loose dryer drum baffle. How to i get to it inorder to tighten the screws? Do I remove the top

unplug Dryer, open door, Remove two door hinge screws going into front panel, remove two screws on opposite side. Grab front panel on upper sides and twist and pull front panel out. Panel sits on two clips at bottom so you have to tip panel out to unhook from the bottom. You will see a metal hook with two screws in it that holds down the top of the dryer on each side. Remove the screws and hook bracket. Make sure you note how it reinstalls. Top will now lift up and lean back against a wall. It is hinged in back. You can now easily get to the drum baffle screws. Trying to get the top up on maytag model #mdg7400aww. Need to get some nails out that was left in pocket & dryed. can you help.

For the model washer you have listed, there should be a a couple of retaining clips inside the front seam where the top panel meets the washer front. If you push a putty knife in the seam about 2 inches in from each side, you will be able to depress the retaining clips to release the top panel. With the retaining clips released, the top panel will open up exposing the mounting screws that hold the washer front in place. Remove the mounting screws and the entire washer front can be removed, giving you full access the washer interior. If you have any questions let me know. I hope this helps you.

BAFFLE INSIDE THE DRUM IS LOOSE. HOW DO I TAKE FRONT OF CABINET OFF SO THAT I CAN GET TO OUTSIDE OF DRUM TO TIGHTEN SCREWS HOLDING BAFFLE?

Open the front door where you load the machine.
Look towards the top where the door normaly closes, there ususualy two screws that you can unscrew there.
Once loose the top pannel should come off, which allowes you to remove the front panel with 2 screws as well.

Good luck!

How to remove a back panel of maytag neptune dryer?

You have a choice for which side front door should be on this model. There are 4 screws on front door. Take all 4 screws and pull down the front panel. You will see two metal parts each side which holds top panel. Remove two screws and metal parts. Now you can push up the top panel.
