Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

You can download the current versions of all (free) Nikon software from

You can try downloading the camera drivers directly from Nikon's website then see if the computer recognizes the camera, if not you will need to use a different computer to avoid a card reader.

Just need to know if the following flashes can be used with the nikon d 3100 digital slr. 1) vivitar 285 hv 2) Metz 45cl 1

Both flashes have trigger voltages at the high end of the safe range for digital SLRs, according to the list at http://botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html

I wouldn't use either on my Nikon DLSR without something like the Wein Safe Sync:

Hi Faith,

BSOD's can be caused by ....well, lots of things...Drivers, hardware incompatibility, operating system, etc. Also diagnosing the cause would require above average knowledge.

I would suggest upgrading all your hardware drivers to latest releases. If not fixed, a clean re-install of Windows should fix it. (remember to back up your data)

I have a pentax slr film camera and i want to know ii the lens will work on a Nikon dlsr digital camera

No. Nikon has been using the same lens mount since about 1959. Pentax has changed their mount once since then, but not to the same thing.

hi there,

the common difference between canon and nikon is the color they produce. you can try to change the White Balance setting on your Canon to the suitable mode e.g cloudy, tungsten, daylight, etc.
if you still feel that the picture is dull, don`t be shy to use graphic software such as Adobe Photoshop, Picasa, etc. to enchance the color/brightness/contrast of your picture

hope this will help

For dlsr camera which is better canon or nikon ?

That depends. If you ask a Nikon user, you'll probably hear Nikon. If you ask a Canon user, you'll probably hear Canon. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Much of it comes down to which lenses you want to use, the camera is whichever will fit those lenses.

I am unable to connect my Nikon S210 to my laptop.

Hi and welcome to FixYa.

Your answer to you question is probably something simple. Most people don't know to make sure the camera is turned off before connecting it to the pc. Try it.

Unplug the camera from the pc and turn it off. Restart your pc.
Plug in the camera to the pc then turn it on.
Go to my computer on the pc and see if it's listed as one of the removeable drives.

This should work. If it does, don't forget to rate my solution as a fixya. If it doesn't, or if you have anymore questions, leave comment.

There was a hardware failure / problem on your laptop. If I'm not mistaken it's probably on the Memory Module.

Thanks,
