Question about Whirlpool Dryers

My Whirlpool Duet Electric Dryer will not turn on... was working fine 5 minutes ago and now when I press the start button it beeps and the timer flashes. The door is sealed shut, so that is not the problem. I have unplugged and plugged it back in. Any and all help will be MUCH appreciated.

I'll let you know if the solution was helpful in 10 minutes :) It flashes constantly, until you press cancel to turn it off.

  • fuller_mary Aug 31, 2008

There is no error message displayed, no water coming in... this is a dryer... not a washer... and the small display gives the number of minutes for the cycle I am trying to do and then that is what flashes

  • fuller_mary Aug 31, 2008

We are going out for the day, so anything else you suggest I will try when we get back. Thanks for the help.

If the power is there, you will want to check the door switch, thermal fuse, thermostats, and start switch to see if one of these is faulty. Make sure that the control settings are appropriate, and that any buttons are fully depressed. Make sure that the start button has been fully pushed down or turned far enough to activate the dryer.
The door or lid switch performs two main functions. When the dryer door is open, it keeps the dryer from starting, and turns on the light. If the door switch is faulty, your dryer won't work, and you'll need to replace the switch. The door switch is located inside of your dryer's main housing right by the door frame. You'll probably need to access this switch through the top or front of your dryer.
There may also be a problem with the start switch. Test and replace if it is faulty.
Many dryers use what's called a thermal fuse. This is often mounted within the exhaust duct in the back panel. This fuse is about an inch long, and is usually found within a white plastic housing. Your dryer will not operate if this fuse is defective. You can test this fuse, and if faulty, replace it.
Most fuses have a thin wire that conducts electricity. When fuses blow, it means the wire is broken, they have no continuity and no power will flow through it. When this happens to the thermal fuse, your dryer either doesn't work at all, or it stops heating. Give your vent and heating system a visual check before you replace this fuse.
You will also want to test each thermostat to determine if any one is faulty. A bad thermostat may prevent your dryer from working at all.

If your washer doesn't seem to work at all, check these:

    No power

Check to see whether power is getting to the washing machine. Is it plugged in? Has a fuse blown or is a circuit breaker tripped?

    Lid switch

If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Some machines have a special lid-switch fuse near the lid switch, inside the control panel. If this fuse blows, the unit won't fill with water until you replace the fuse.

If it does not work at all, and return error try unplugging unloaded machine for a longer time. If there is an error code post it here. Check that water is coming into the machine from the supply at the back and that drain hose is not obstructed.

If you still cannot fix the problem it can be a faulty cycle timer/ control panel, faulty pump, fault on inlet valve etc.
Parts must be tested by a qualified technician in this case.
You can call a technician using the phone number printed on the user manual.

Let me know if the machine displays any error message.

    Thanks

Hi, naturally if it is Duet dryer only, disregard the part related to the water supply. On duet dryer, when a component is faulty you usually get the E... error message on display.
However some fault , like a defective door latch may go undetected.
Here below I listed some possible cause for your problem.

Try pressing and holding the Start button for 2-5 seconds. Heavy load requires to hold down the button for 5 seconds, see if this start the cycle.

Check that the door is closing properly, if the door latch sensor has gone bad, this can be the problem.
Try opening and pushing back the door several times the door itis the most likely when you do not get any error message.

There must be two household fuses, or circuit breakers for the
dryer. Check that both fuses are intact, or that both
circuit breakers have not tripped. Replace the fuse or reset
    the circuit breaker.

Check that the exhaust air vent and hood are not obstructed. Keep machine unplugged when you do this.

Empty the load and try running the dryer with a short time cycle, and empty load, see if this clears the error.

The belt at the back, that spin the drum may be stuck or out of place, to check the belt routing you need to remove the back panel. I do not think this is the cause , as usually you get an error message when this happens. For this may be better to call a technician.

See if the problem can be solved with any of the tricks above.
Let me know if you need further help.

If you need to call a repairman, or use warranty, contact Whirlpool. In the U.S.A., call 1-800-253-1301. In Canada, call 1-800-807-6777.

I press the start button on my whirlpool duet dryer and it beeps, but doesn't start

This is a common issue caused by a blown thermal fuse located on the blower housing and wired in series with the motor. Power to the motor is then cut and therefore cannot run. No dryer function works when the motor cannot run. Click on the link below for the complete details of the troubleshooting and repair procedure.

My whirlpool dryer just beeps when you try to start it. The panel is lit up the door is shut, push start and it just beeps...any idea what the problem is

To unlock the Control Locked feature:
Press and hold the End Of Cycle Signal button for 3 seconds to turn this feature off.

NOTE: When the dryer is running and Control Locked light is on, the dryer can be stopped by pressing the Pause/Cancel button, but cannot be restarted until the control is unlocked.

If holding doesn't unlock the feature, it is likely a faulty interface. I am having the same problem with my Whirlpool dryer and it is the interface, but it seems that a lot of people are able to correct the issue just by pressing the End of Cycle button for 3 minutes.

I have a whirlpool duet gas dryer that will not turn on. When I press the start button it makes a beep three times then the lights go off.

I had the same problem with mine. As it turned out the dryer door wasn't completely shut. You really have to push them hard when they are brand new and you should feel a second "click" when it pops in all the way.
