When I plug my acer 7736/7736z Series laptop in to charge up the battery icon says 0% available (plugged in) not charging. After leaving it plugged in for an hour it still says the same thing. Any suggestions I rarely use it. Is it the battery or the A/C adapter?

Try taking the battery out and running it. Some models will run without the battery, some won't. If it runs it's the battery that's shot. It is often the battery that goes as they only are good for a few years. I'm assuming you get into windows with it plugged in as you're seeing that it shows "0" left charge. Batteries will also get a much shorter life as it ages.

Acer aspire Battery problem 0% available (plugged in not charging)

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.

Battery icon showing 0% available (plugged in, charging). I did not use laptop for roughly 3-4 weeks. I also did not notice any quick battery loss prior to this when not plugged in.

Hi

I would be tempted to leave laptop switched off and turn power plug on to charge up the battery before i use it for a couple of hrs at least and hopefully this will put some charge into the battery

they say that if you continously use the laptop with the power cord plugged in then you could
remove the battery completly to extend the battery life and just use the cord

that way the battery will last many years longer

I had a similar problem with my Acer Aspire after I got a replacement battery about 6 months ago.
I was told to disconnect the laptop, turn it off, disconnect the battery, then press the power button for 30 seconds to reset the charging circuit.

I did this, but it didn't work any better. I thought that since my charger seems to run the computer, but it says 0% Available (plugged in, charging) that there was something wrong with the battery.

So, I contacted the manufacturer of the battery and they said they would refund my money within 7 days after receipt, and they gave me an RMA number for the return on the address label.

I, also, got the battery from Ebay.

Since your problem is that the battery icon with a red X over it says 0%, I would say that maybe the battery is bad, or maybe the battery is not connected very well at the contacts. Maybe blow the contacts off with compressed air in order to clean any dust which may be on it.

I would maybe try another battery to try to see if the charging circuit is bad on the laptop.

If another battery doesn't work, then the charging circuit between the laptop and the battery may be faulty.

Good luck on this repair.

If the Acer is brand new then it is under warranty. Take it back to where you bought the Acer and get it fixed under warranty. if you attempt to fix it yourself you will most likely void your warranty.
