I was watching a DVD, the display went dark, still had sound; ejected the DVD, still no display function; turned off laptop and restarted, still no display.

I've also got the same problem. I've noticed though, that it's still displaying something on the screen, it's just the backlight of whatever lights the screen is faulty. At first I thought that it was the video card that died, but I noticed the centrino logo in the corner of the boot screen just barely visible during the boot sequence. I was considering changing the video card (which I still might do), but now it seems to be either a connection problem with the display from being jostled around a lot, or just a bad display. I'm thinking that it's a connection problem, because I can move the screen up and down and the display comes back for about a second, then disappears. Dell has a service manual on their website to guide you in repairing whatever needs to be repaired http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy... but I wouldn't do that if you have a warranty. I don't, so that's my only option.

have you tried replacing the hard drive and then reinstall the xp i have encountered sam problems with dell laptops, plus clean out your fan after you do this there should be better performance.ley me know how this works out for you..
Referencing a Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop and a Optoma DLP Projector ExPro 730. Hook up all of the necessary ables and such. Turn both the Laptop and the Projector on. Once the Laptop is booted up, go to the Control Panel and double click on the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver Icon and then click on the Multiple Display and then click on APPLY! Thats it ......... and it works like a charm.
Could be your battery is already dead. If it will be suddenly off then can be turn on again.Check your battery if it still can hold charge. It could be you are actually just running on AC source.
hi, i have something strange found in my inspiron 6000: it looses SMD-parts in the dc-power-converter! ...strange isn't it? maybe are the suddenly shutdowns the beginning of this ****! you need someone who knows good soldering....
...and maybe someone can tell me which kind of parts the mine d6000 has loosen :oD ? it came back from dell *without*...!!!
You can also pick up the batteries less expensive than most computer places at batteries plus. And yes it sounds as though it is the batteries charge is getting low, especially if it runs fine when the battery is out and you have it plugged in.
