Sounds like a contactor that has welded itself closed. Look and see if there is a seperate contactor for the fan isolated from the compressor. But be very careful this area of the unit contains high voltage.

When I turn my window unit on, it will cool for 2 - 3 minutes. Then the fan turns off and the compressor continues to run for maybe another 90 seconds, then shuts off.

Make sure the filters are clean. Check what mode it is on as well. On heating, it is normal for there to be a delay before the unit starts up and then "run on" when turned off. Also check what temperature is set on it. If the temp is too high, the machine will cycle on and off as it thinks it has already reached the temp you want.

Fan not turning on my Amana RCB30B2A a/c unit

Try checking the capacitor inside the electrical panel on the unit. Usually the capacitor will be swollen or even exploded if it is bad. To properly check it, you will need a meter that measures MFD's (microfarads). It will have an amount printed on the label. I have attached a picture of what they look like new. Hope this helps and good luck!

WARNING! Capacitors store electricity. Also make sure all power is off before performing any work!

My fan runs continually, even when I switch the thermostat to 'off' between the heat and cold setting.

There would be a relay,or transistor malfunction in the unit that controls the fan motor.

Amana AP148D-RB, Air Conditioner Parts

Not sure if you have fixed yet, but I had the same problem on my AP148D. There are 2 fans, 1 for the condenser (base of unit) and 1 for the evaporator (top of unit). My condenser fan disintigrated. Go to his web site and you will find a parts list for this model, and a distributer list http://service.haieramerica.com/Models.aspx?CID=231

Call this number and they have the parts in stock : 800-313-8495, mine shipped overnight. The parts are :

AC-8000-27 Wheel-blower condenser $21.81

AC-8000-26 Wheel-blower evaporator $21.81

I suspect you will need the first part. Hope this helps. Be careful to note where all the screws come from when dismantling !!!!

A/C hums even when turned off. A/C continues to run & cool even when turned to fan. There is a wall mounted thermostat

Have you turned off he thermostat? Sounds like a contactor is stuck. ?Turn unit poer off at the circuit breaker panel If it is the cas, something will burn up.

Rheem outside a/c fan won't turn off

I would probably start at the thermostat and see if 24 volts is continued to be applied to the yellow wire which calls for unit activity even though you have called this off. Shorting the cool (yellow) wire to the return (red) wire will cause the HVAC system to begin cooling and the fan will be turned on automatically.

Turn the power to the indoor unit off. Remove the cover where the fan is. Feel the motor of the fan. If it is very hot the bearings have likely gone out. If the fan is cool to the touch I would call a service company because you likely have an electrical problem that will require some training to solve.

Ptac fan keeps blowing

Try setting the fan control to "AUTO" this will cause it to cut out with the compressor.
