Question about Onkyo TX-DS484 Receiver
I am trying to install this for the first time. Was given to me used. I know it worked fine before, and I have all manuals for each component, but I can't figure out what to do!! I can get the subwoofer to work, but no matter which speakers I plug in where, I can't get any others to work. I have tested the speakers on my regular stereo and they all work fine. Also, I am very confused as to what plugs in where. PLEASE HELP!!!
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Hey Tad, I have the same problem and perhaps a solution. I just moved to the other SW "pre-out" and it seems to be working..the green light is on . Whatever works i guess.

Greg- Powered subs are better than non-powered subs (also known as passive subs), anyway I see the TX-8511 has no sub pre-out on the back panel, so you need to decide what sub you will use and run from the receivers left and right speakers output into a subwoofers speaker in from speakers then back out to speakers, look at the back of a subwoofer and you will see like 4 sets of speaker hookups 2 in and 2 out, what this does is takes the low end or bass and drops the signal to the subwoofer then takes the mids and highs out to your left and right speakers, unless your regular left and right stereo speakers have large woofers a sub is the way to go.

The surround processing portion of the unit has a problem. In either stereo or direct mode, the digital procesing is bypassed. This could be just the surround processing IC, but that IC may not be available as a separate part. I would suggest that you bring this unit to an authorized Onkyo service center for an estimate.

You need to tell it you have surround speakers. Page 30.
The manual is available here...

SOURCE: connect mp3 on onkyo tx-ds484 ?
buy an attachment at Radio Shack - Ipod cable to 3 rca cables; plug the rca cables into the
CD input; leave the video cable hanging. It is not a charger, so you will need to re-charge your ipod.
