Question about NetGear MR814 Wireless Router

1 Answer

Can't set it up

I have netgear MR814

I'd like to go wireless, already I have a tiscali broadboad sagemfrost modem that links me to the internet.

I haven't been able to set up my netgear since I brought it.

What i've been doing so far is to type in http://198.162.0.1
it then comes up with the access screen (I have the blue ethernet cable fixed to netgear and comp at this stage) note: that I'm linked up to my normal internet connection.

Then it tries to configure what type of internet connection I have....

after a couple of seconds it says no connection make sure... blah blah blah.

What am I doing wrong that I can't set it up?

First time you have to connect the modem into the router and the router into the computer. run the setup and then remove the cable between the router and computer.

Netgear MR814 and windows 7 issues

There shouldn't be any issues with the router as a result of Windows 7. The Router does not interact with the computer in such a way as to cause incompatibility like with hardware or software.
That said, what could be causing issues may be out of date WiFi card drivers. Windows 7 has an incredible driver database and I have only come across a handful of things it doesn't detect. But sometimes even with the things it does pick up, a better driver is available.

You should run Windows Update by going to Start (2252758.gif), All Programs, and then Windows Update. If not already set up, you should click change settings on the left and make sure all recommended updates are received like important updates. This way you will get all updates available, including hardware updates.

If this does not seem to improve the situation I will be posting a How To on properly configuring your Netgear router. This will ensure your settings are set to their most optimal settings.

Good Luck,

I want to use my netgear mr814 wireless router to connect to the internet but i cannot remember the password

which password you don't remember the Router or the Internet account?

if it's the router- you can reset it by clicking on the reset (very hard to find) button.
if it is the Internet password- just call your ISP and have them reset your password.

I am trying to get my netgear mr814v2 to connect to the internet via hard wire to comcast with no luck. the connection is good when i go direct from teh computer

If you connect the computer to the modem it works, that means the modem is working.
Now connect the modem and the computer to the router and open the router set up page.
Clone the MAC address of the computer on the router and power cycle the network.
That will work.

Hook directly to the router hard wire. Go to configuration page for router and look at wireless security settings. it will show you Wep or some other encryption technique. It will also give you a place to view or change your wireless key. Once you do that write the key down and then connect wirelessly.

Wireless connection fine but internet connection impossible

if you only have usb connection in your modem, internet on the zyxel router will not work since it's using ethernet connection. in order for your zyxel device to work with tiscali, you will need a cable/dsl router that has ethernet connection as well. you can contact tiscali if they can provide you with that kind of modem.

hope this'll help you
