The DVD could be corrupted that's why your computer won' read it. Refinalize it and see what happens. Make sure your'e using came from the electrical outlet and not the battery when your doing it.

hope this may help;

You told you PC cant read this disc.

yes absolutely correct. PC cannot read disk which have not been burned successfully.

but there are software by which you can get your data back.

ISOBUSTER is the best one.

get a free version from download.com

if you need help regarding this then please post back with my name.

also you cannot get this problem solved unless your camcorder is repaired. so i would suggest you to get it solved first.

since the recorder has burned the disk there are 95% chance that you can get back the data.

and hence you need not worry about this disk.

but for the problem not to repeat i would suggest you to get the camcorder service first and clear this problem at bud.

    thank you

dont forget to accept the solution if you are OK with it.

    good luck

  • dewan nafees ahmed Aug 31, 2008

also i encountered a software to recover your data.

read the key features first point:
" Retrieves VOB files (DVD Video object files) on the DVDs that were not properly finalized by Hitachi, Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, Canon
and other DVD camcorders. For example, you lost an access to the video
clips due to the "Disk Error" message when you turned on the camera, or
    disc finalization was accidently interrupted."

click here to see the main page

    thank you

dont forget to accept the solution if you are OK with it.

    good luck

  • dewan nafees ahmed Aug 31, 2008

When you get a format problem it is most likely that your camcorder does not have the right codec. this is what reads the dvd format. sometimes you can hear only audio or just the vidieo or none at all. you should be able to program the camcorder with the right codec. you need to know what that codec ismost times you can download that codec using your computer. use the usb cable that comes with your camcorder . put the dvd in your computer and run it it will tell you you do not have the right codec and will ask you if you want to go on the net to find the right one. hope this helps. good luck

as i have stated before the only way to read the disc is if you have the right codec that reads the format. this is a common problem. not all equipment will read all formats such as it is . you will have to download the codec in order to read the disc.

I think the problem is that the sony only lets you fromat with there software so you have to have the disc in the sony ant use the software built into the camera before you can view it on the PC

HERE are some other people that had the same problem

DID you FORMAT THE DISC IT CAN ONLY BE DONE WITH THE SONY VIDEO CAMERA IN THE CAMERA NOT HOOKED UP TO THE PC!!!!!!!!!!

THIS IS HOW MOST MINI-DV WORK (SONY) PUT THE FORMATING SOFTWARE BUILT INTO THE CAMERA YOUR PC WILL NOT READ IT NOT MATTER WHAT 3RD PARTY SOFTWARE YOU USE

Is your dvd disc playable with any dvd player. if not then
sir try this: if your dvd disc from camcorder coudnt recognize by your pc or dvd try to decode it. by using a xilisoft video converter. its easy to use.

http://www.mininova.org/tor/1636241

1. download the torrent file from the link that ive provided to you (above link)
2. if you dont have any torrent downloader then download and install to your pc the utorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/)
3. click the torrent file and open with utorrent. it should start downloading.
4. after finishing downloading install the xilisoft video converter to your pc.
5. open the xilisoft video converter. browse the dvd file from your computer and convert it in any types of videos do you like.
6. play the video to any media player software.
7. burn the video using nero burner.

it should be playable with your computer and your dvd player.

cheers

Does the unfinalised disc play in the camcorder? If it does not, you probably have a faulty disc. If the disc does not play in the camcorder however, you might have lost all or part of your video. This is not normal, usually you can just finalise your disc and play it in a DVD player. Try again with another disc (+RW if you don't want to finalise before playing it), or if you give up on the present disc, try doing a full format on it in the PC DVD drive. Sometimes this fixes a faulty disc. You will have to format it again in the camcorder as well.

Hope that helps..........

If the computer wont recognize the disc sorry to say the recorded data is not save and there's no way you can retrieve it, because if your recorder didn't finish finalizing the data wont be save... The problem there can be with the disc or the recorder itself. Try first usinga different disc to check if you can record a new video using a different disc but if still not the problem is with the recorder itself...

  • Mark Gil
    Mark Gil Aug 31, 2008

There's no assurance that the data wont be lost since the recorder didn't finalized the recording so just be ready for the worse case scenario that you wont be able to recover the data just to be honest...

  • Mark Gil
    Mark Gil Aug 31, 2008

Yes if you format your DVD everything will be gone,, just to be honest I'm thinking that we wont be able to retrive the data from that disc...

Hi,

. You could try using Isobuste or if you have Nero6 or 7 (full) on your PC, you can try NeroRecode. If the disc does not play in the camcorder, however, you might have lost all or part of your video. This is not normal, usually you can just finalise your disc and play it in a DVD player. Try again with another disc (+RW if you don't want to finalise before playing it), or if you give up on the present disc, try doing a full format on it in the PC DVD drive. Sony DCR DVD108 not finalizing disc, lost data

I noticed that too with my "VR" (and NOT "Video") formatted disks. I don't think you can finalize the VR ones. Instead you have to use the Sony Import tool to grab the videos. If you are like me you probably remember using the import tool with Video formatted disks BEFORE finalizing them and it takes forever to copy them. They must be finalized to view on other devices, copy using the import tool quicker, etc., but VR formatted disks seem optimized for importing (and can be edited on the camcorder directly.

Sony Handycam says movie recording disabled. How did this happen and how do I undo it?

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot when Recording disabled is displayed by the camcorder.
  1. Verify the disc being used has not been finalized. It is not possible to record additional video on a finalized disc.
  2. Attempt to record on a different disc.

I have a HANDYCAM SONY DCR-DVD 106, and I keep getting the following message error - "Disc error. Unsupported format - 13:023, with regard to a mini MEMOREX DVD-R.

Disc error. Unsupported format means that ur camera does not support the format of this disc it might not support DVD-R or DVD-RW and supports the DVD+R and +RW try the other format disc and let me know if it resolved , check the manual it is stated on the box or manual which format it supports, if it does not solve ur problem try some other brand instead of MEMOREX try sony,hp,fuji, philips and see actually these sony cameras they are sometimes locked by the manufacturer to only use the original discs for monopoly sony acts like that in every product

Format Error Sony DCR-DVD108 C:1302

Hi Lisa,

What you have there is a bad disk. Sometimes that happens. Disks are made in mass and sometimes the company can make entire batches that are "bad". I recommend that you buy a known brand like memorex, although sometimes, they can mess up too. Just try another disk. Thanks for coming to FixYa, and feel free to rate my solution. Thanks again.
