Prehaps the problem might be the graphics card on its way out.

When I turn on my laptop it goes to a windows error recovery page and gives me the options to launch startup repair or start windows normally. When I launch the startup repair my screen goes black and only...

Hello.

Sounds like the Windows Recovery Partition is corrupted or your hard drive may be faulty.

But, first try to boot your system in Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly as it boots) and choose Safe Mode or Last Known Good.

If it still doesn't boot properly, try the diagnostics to determine if a hardware problem - boot your system and press F 12 (or F2) repeatedly.

Hope this helps.

When you switch on both Poota and Monitor, is there visual startup flashes or startup information showing on screen.

Make sure the monitor connect to rear of poota is located and firmly in place and properly screwed in?

Will not display output from Computer

Probably the video resolution or the monitor Refresh Rate (eg: 50/60/75 Hertz) is set too high in the operating system, which over-drives the monitor electronics and it is unable to display anything.

If you restart the computer manually (hold in the power button for 5 seconds, the computer will shut off, turn it back on again) you will see the normal BIOS and Windows startup display on the monitor, but then as Windows completes it's startup it returns to the error message you see.

To fix this, restart the computer manually and start the computer in Safe Mode. To do this press F8 just before the computer starts to load Windows, and choose Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode, you should see the monitor working correctly.

Now restart the computer in Normal Mode and everything should be fine.

Will come on-then say no signal

If you mean the monitor is fine during the Windows booting process and then just as your about to go into Windows goes black then do this...

Start the computer
When the bios screen goes start pressing F8
A Windows Startup screen will appear
If you see the Windows Logo (the loading one) then hit reset and try again
At the Windows Startup page, select Safe Mode and press enter twice.

Windows will now load. Go into Device Manager (Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Device Manager)
Select the video card, and uninstall it.
Restart Windows
Reinstall your video card using the Installer package (if it's ATI or nVidia)

If this dosn't work, then post back and we will try something else

15inches monitor troubleshooting

Hi Rachel,
The old monitor was set to a resoloution that is higher then you current monitor can handle. This is normally the case when changing from a CRT to an LCD

Try this:
Unplug the video cable from the back of your computer.
Start the computer and wait for about 2 minutes.
Press the power button on the front of the computer just once. This will **** it back down safely again.
Plug the video cable back in, then restart the computer with the monitor turned on.

If this dosn't work then try this:
  1. Turn the computer on (have the monitor already powered up)
  2. When the computers bios/splash page goes away begin to press F8
  3. You should get a Windows Startup options page.
  4. If you see the WIndows Logo you normally see when it loads, just hit the reset button and try again.
  5. In the Windows Startup page, select Safe Mode and press enter twice
  6. Windows will now load.
  7. On the desktop right click anywhere there is nothing.
  8. Select Display Properties, a new window will open
  9. Select the last tab at the top of the window (properties)
  10. You will see a slider on the left side, move it to 800x600, select apply, then close the box.
  11. Restart Windows.
If that fails, then please post back and we can try something else.

Monitor problem

This means the output from the computer is running at a higher resoloution then the monitor can support.'
Try this:
  1. Start the computer
  2. When the bois page vanishes, start pressing F8
  3. You will get a Windows Startup options page
  4. If instead you see the Windows Logo screen, just hit reset and try again.
  5. On the options page select "Safe Mode" press enter twice
  6. When Windows has loaded, right click on the desktop and select "Desplay Properties" Another window will pop up.
  7. Select Display Properties on the last tab at the top of this window.
  8. There will be a slider on the left side near the bottom, slide it left to about 800x600, press Apply then OK.
  9. Restart Windows
That should solve the issue =)
