Installed a new cartridge, got a "left cartridge error" message. Fiddled with it for a while, ended up getting an "error 1203" message. Unplugged and replugged the machine from the power outlet, am now getting "left cartridge error" message again. I have removed and replaced the cartridge about three times, no help at all.

If the old cartridge can be detected and the new ones are not
Try rubbing the metal contact on the ink cartridge with cotton or clean clothes there is a very thin film covering the contact that sometimes prevented the Printer from recognizing the Cartridge

Open the Dell 926's front cover with the power on and wait for the cartridge carriage to come to a stop. Remove the ink cartridges by pressing on the tabs at the top of each cartridge. Check the cartridges to make sure you have removed all of the blue protective plastic film. Look for the "Dell" logo stamped into the cartridges' lids to ensure they are genuine cartridges.
Clean the shiny metal portions of the ink cartridges with a damp microfiber cloth. Allow each cartridge to dry completely.

Close the Dell 926's front cover and turn off the printer. Unplug the power cord and USB cable from the printer for five seconds, then reconnect them.
If your Dell 926 fails to recognize the print cartridges after following the above instructions,

Good Luck and Happy Printing
Lift the printer unit up. Position the scanner support beam between the tabs to hold the printer unit lid open. The ink cartridge carrier moves to the loading position in the center of the printer.
Press down on the lever in front of the right and left ink cartridges lid. The lid opens and raises up.
Remove the color and black ink cartridges from the carrier. Inspect the cartridges to ensure that it is compatible with the Dell 926 printer. The proper cartridge is called Dell 926 Standard Capacity Color Ink and Dell Standard Capacity Black Ink.
Examine the cartridges for any tape over the ink nozzle. New cartridges have a strip of tape covering the bottom of the cartridge that must be removed before installing into the printer.
Insert the cartridges into the carrier so the label is on top with the color logo side going in first. Press the lid down to snap it into place.
Push the scanner support bar back to release it. Lower the printer unit until it is closed.
Turn the printer off. Restart the computer. Turn the printer on. If the error message appears again, the cartridges may be defective and needs to be replaced.
I hope this clears up your problem.

replaced cartridge in 926 with new series 9 cartridge from Dell. Left print cartridge error (says wrong cartridge). Did not work with 2nd new. Anyone find cure?
keep getting a "left cartridge incorrect" error. printed fine yesterday. taking cartridge out and putting back in doesn't correct problem
Same problems that are described with Del 962 printer. Left cartridge incorrect. Is it an ink cartridge made in the Pillippines problem, or a real one?
