Never force the advance lever on a camera that is locked. You will only damage more parts, and may render the camera unrepairable. Try moving the speed indicator to different settings. Change the batteries. Jar the camera by hitting it lightly with the palm of your hand. But, never force the advance lever if it is locked and will not move.Click Here for pictures I have a Pentax and - gear.gif

but i would suggest you to get it done by a repair center unless you have proper expertise about the repair.

The problem affects all Pentax Spotmatic models and probably all the
earlier SLRs like Matt's. It happens when, for some reason, the mirror
mechanism doesn't become cocked with the shutter when the film advance
lever is operated. The shutter release button won't depress and the
double-exposure prevention stops the lever winding any further. The
camera is completely jammed. Fortunately it's very simple to cure this.

    Remove
the bottom plate and hold the camera with the lens facing away from
you. To the left of the tripod mount there's a lever projecting up
through a slot. There's a long spring hooked into a hole in the end of
the lever. With your finger nail push the lever upwards towards the
lens to the end of its slot and it will latch itself. Then fire the
shutter and camera is back to normal.

So now you know what to do if you see a Spottie being sold for spares/repair because it's jammed!

I want to repair my Pentax digital camera i.e ( Optio 60 ). I live in Kolkata_India and i unable to find Pentax service centre. So, please help me out from this problem as soon as...

I found the following sites that service Pentax, but I couldn't find one in India. However, there are some in neighboring countries, and you should try to contact them. Unfortunately, the U.S. center does not service internationally.
Hope this helps, and good luck.

Error lens 113.0.0.0 pentax Optio e40

Your camera has a lens error, this is such a common fault that I hope you don't mind me pasting my stock generic answer below. No point in reinventing the wheel!

Stuck lenses are probably the most common reason that compact digital cameras get thrown away, but there's a fair chance of recovering use of your camera again

The fault is commonly caused by dirt or grit blocking the mechanism, or due to it having suffered a recent fall. Another common cause is that the camera was in a pocket or bag and the power button accidentally activated and tried to open the lens against resistance. The mechanism may have simply become dislodged or there may be parts which have broken.

If your camera is still under warranty and has definitely not been subject to misuse then contact the Pentax service department in your country to find out about a free repair. If the warranty has expired though a professional repair will far exceed the cost of replacing your camera. You will therefore have nothing to lose by trying to fix this yourself.

Please click here and you will be taken to an excellent article provided by the Camera Repair website. For the most part, you'll be guided on how to physically manipulate your camera to try and clear the fault. Although the article mentions Canon a few times, the advice applies equally to all cameras with lens errors and is not model-specific.

If the link doesn't work then cut and paste the following address into your browser:-

Good luck, I hope you manage to use this information to fix your camera. Please take a moment to rate the speedy and free answer I have provided for you and any testimonial which you might wish to add is always welcome!

Every time I change the battery in my pentax s5i the time and date revert to' as new' and I have to reset date and time. I have been using the camera for 6 years without this problem. Any ideas?

It may be a circuit designed to maintain date/time settings when the battery is removed that has failed.

Although a very good camera, I would imagine the cost of repair would be greater than the value of the camera.

A couple of thoughts though, if you are making an immediate swap with a charged spare battery, then there's a fault, you may find a firmware upgrade on the Pentax website which may help.

If there is a delay in replacing the battery, then having a spare, fully charged battery available at the time, may circumvent the problem.

Broken orange battery tab

Contact Pentax and see if they will send you the part, for the tab + S/H it should cost you approximately $25, although I have recently heard they will not provide these items to customers anymore. If they're no longer providing replacements, your device will need to be sent to them for repair (approximately $70 incl labour).
Or... Get a piece of tape and place it over the battery and close the casing, other "ghetto rig solutions" include folding a piece of paper, placing it atop the battery (between the battery and the closing cover) and closing the flap, the paper will hold the battery against the pins and allow function.

My pentax optio 50 lens got stuck half-way and now the camera turns on briefly and then goes off automatically. I've replaced batteries and pushed the lens in manually, but it's still not working. Mary

This is tricky .. if you have no warranty, and have already managed to push the lens in.. I suggest pulling the lens outwards gently AS you simulataneously turn the camera on. You may be able to use a small suction-cup affixed to the lens to do this :)
you could hold the lens-cover open with tape so the cover is less likely to be damaged.. good luck, this problem is common, annoying, and usually not worth repairing (*although with some cameras it can be done again and again!)

Optio 33WR Sluggish Buttons

I had the 33WR last year, and opened it up. My subjective opinion is that it cannot withstand the pressure underwater. Someone tried it and water got in.

My pentax optio s has fell on the floor.

It is not likely that camera drop damage will be covered under warranty. But it never hurts to ask. Regardless, you will need to contact Pentax about repairs. Repair location information should be in the documentation that came with the camera. Their website shows service centers: http://www.pentaxusa.com/service/serv_servcenter.cfm Camera drops are not uncommon. Sorry to hear yours was damaged.
