Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-N1 Digital Camera
I can view old pics but if i put the camera on to vidio or to take a shot the screen is black i can still take the shot but all is black
If you can, take a good look at your lens. In this case, this is an actual lens of a DSC-N1 in which you can see lines in it. This is not a shutter, it's physically cracked.
This assembly is fairly easy to replace. However, I don't know what Sony would charge for the lens. This is why you can take pictures but everything comes out black. Not sure exactly what this piece does but I do know it has something to do with the transmission of light that goes through the lens.
If this is your case, for sure you will need to replace the lens assembly. Another thing you can try for those of you who do not have a broken lens, is put a flashlight right up against the lens and see if the display shows any light. In any case, this is your problem.

Make sure you have a correct setting- go to the Manual.
If you are certain all is well there- then it colud be an internal failure.
Check out customer support at Sony re this.
