Acer Travel Mate 280. Kids reported / no network. I turned on the power but it gave critical Battery sound and display signal. I turned it OFF, plugged the power supply and turned it on again. Power light went on but it did not boot and their is no screen display. I removed the hard desk in suspicion and connected it to another machine and it was reading OK I attached an external monitor to the Laptop, but still NO display / NO boot. Is it mainboard ? Is it Display card? Or I could not guess!

Re: Power On / No Boot
Is it POSTing? Do parts make noise and then theres a Beep? The beep means it finished the Power On Self Test. Once it posts then it will show splash screen or black screen with it testing hard drives disk drives etc.. If no post is the led lit that says A/C is connected? before you attempt to turn on? If no post and good ac to rear connector then you probably need a new motherboard.

You will need to open the laptop, remove the keyboard and underneath their is a covering. Remove the covering and you will see rtc battery and a dip switch with four white buttons that can be positioned to on and off. First disconnect the rtc battery from the motherboard and then move the third button to the on position. Power on and the password will be removed. Power off the laptop. Reconnect the rtc battery and slide the third dip switch button back to the original position. It depends upon how much time you run your laptop on battery power, you can keep an eye on the battery charge level when you connect it to mains power. You do not need to keep it on mains power all the time, only when the battery level drops to a low level and needs charging. The laptop will warn you when it is low on battery power.
sounds like a bad power cord- make certain you have power coming from your ac adapter- the reason you see a black screen is that your system has a critically low battery. get a good charger, should be able to work from there.
make sure processor fan is working fine. you may hear the sound of fan on the left side of the laptop. and make sure its not getting heat soon. If the fan is not working you need to replace the fan. If if gets heat soon that means you have to put processor cooling paste.IF the fan is working fine and the processor heat is normal, then you need to re-fix the RAM. Then it will work fine..ok
If you dont see any green lights and you dont hear any boot up sounds ( hd, fans, etc) try to take out battery and just plug in the AC adapter to a known good power outlet. Make sure your power plug is good too. If you hear boot-up sounds, see green lights but no display then toggle on the "fn" key and or try on an external monitor.
