After upgrade cpu to Core Duo E7500 Freq 2,93GHz, Fsb 1066, Lga 775 bios say on boot: Unknown cpu detected. Bios Update is required to unlesh its full power. I try to clear CMOS with jumper and batery and the problem persist. Bios detect cpu without problems, Os (linux) work ok Any sugestions pls?

The Foxconn P9657AA-8EKRS2H motherboard has a LGA 775 Socket. It will support Intel Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Extreme, and Core 2 Duo processors with an FSB of 1066 (800MHz). Thus is should support the dual core 775 processors. (Some Pentium 4, Pentium D and Celeron D CPUs may also be compatible with the board.)

Yes, your board supports LGA 775 CPUs with FSB speeds of 1333/1066/800 MHz.

ASUS P3-P5G31 Spec

The board is maxed out at 1066 and it does not appear that gateway has a BIOS update to allow for the higher FSB reuired with the faster Intel chips. If you installed one of these newer LGA 775 chips into your computer it may work but would be a lot slower than what it is rated due to the chips multiplier would be set for 1333. I could not see any BIOS updates from gateway for this board. Also these chips are designed to run with the faster memory and the 800mhz memory speed would also be a bottle neck for your system.

Ensure that you download the BIOS update from the ASUS Website - nowhere else - and that it is for your exact motherboard model.

I am a bit surprised that they still require you to copy the files to a floppy/USB and boot into DOS. Last time I updated my Phoenix BIOS the utility ran from Windows. But anyway, that seems to still be the procedure for ASUS boards.

asus tech support is rubbish.
i run my system on an ASROCK motherboard.
excellent boards, 2500mhz bus, can handle any cpu, most have 4 ram slots.

i do not believe that cores are physically exchangeble for core 2's
