  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

    SD Card Full

When you install a larger SD card it will be a fresh empty memory card. Your existing 8Gb SD card will still have the the 5 hour gig data on it.
You can insert the 8Gb SD memory card into an USB memory card reader and plug this into the USB port on your computer. The computer will see this SD memory card and adapter as an external storage device. You can then open the audio folder on theis SD memory card and copy this file to your computer.

Normally, you can only insert an SD card one way. Try a different SD card or check to see if the SD card you're using has the "write protect" switch on. If that's not the issue try formatting the card in your PC and then format it in the camera.

My SD card will not format

Get an SD card. Your 8GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot it is electronically incompatible and will not work with your camera. You need to use an SD card, 2GB and smaller.

New sandisk 8 gb sd card reports memory error when inserted in camera. other cards work in camera. card is recognized by laptop. tried reformatting by Vista

There are no 8GB SD cards. Cards this size are SDHC (High Capacity). SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

8MB or 8GB? If it's actually an 8MB card, you'll be able to put maybe two or three pictures on it, so I'll assume it's an 8GB card.

The DX4530 is designed to work with SD cards. Your 8GB card is actually an SDHC card. While SDHC cards will fit into SD devices, there are electronic difference that prevent them from working there. SD cards will work in SDHC devices but not the other way around.

You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Should you use an 8gb sd memory card in a panasonic lumix dmc-fx3 camera ?

    Hi,

The manual lists the following SD cards compatible:

    4 GB SDHC Memory Card
    2 GB SD Memory Card
    1 GB SD Memory Card
    512 MB SD Memory Card
    256 MB SD Memory Card
    128 MB SD Memory Card
    64 MB SD Memory Card

An 8GB card may or may not work. If you try it, make sure it is an SDHC card. (Note: HC=High Capacity)

    Thanks for using Fixya.

When I put in my SD 8 GB memory card, busy signal

An 8GB SD card will actually be a SDHC card, the HC means High Capacity. Your camera is only designed for regular SD cards up to a maximum capacity of 2GB; it's incompatible with SDHC at the basic hardware level and so cannot format the card.

You only have one solution: fit an SD card which does not exceed 2GB. Note that the specification for regular SD cards goes up to 4GB, but very few standard SD devices were ever designed or tested for compatibility with them. The few regular SD cameras which can use them mostly can only do so after a firmware update and even then will operate very slowly compared to when using a 2GB card. There has never been a firmware update to enable your camera to use 4GB SD cards.

The camera doesn't accept new memory card put into the camera

Sorry that this answer is far too late to be of use to you, but it may help others searching for advice with the same fault. I only stumbled across your unanswered question by accident.

8GB is an SDHC card. Your camera was designed to use the earlier SD cards instead with a maximum 1GB capacity.
