Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Refrigerator not getting cold - freezer still pretty cold - perhaps not all the way raphael@raphaelbachrach.com I purchased a Kenmore fridge in Aug. 2005 (no freezer - fridge only). During a couple weeks of warmer weather I noticed it was not keeping the foold cold which ended up in the garbage. I fortunately have a small bar fridge I am able to use for the essentials. I called Sears repair Aug. 21 and to date no one has bothered to contact me to set up a time to fix it it. I was told It would be a priority call due to the situation. We have livestock and some of their vaccines, meds, etc., must be kept cool. Needless to say several have been thrown out. I read the manual and did as suggested with no change - now the air blowing is not even cool so I unplugged the appliance - no pointin wasting electricity. I have given up on Sears and plan to call a local repair person after the holiday weekend. Any ideas?

Many times the refrigerator is turned of with the freezer door shut. This causes the fan motor to rust on the ensd of shaft. Remove back panel of freezer (unplug first) put a little 3n1 oil on the fan shaft give a spin then plug in and make sure the fan continue to run. Sea Breeze

Kenmore 21 refrigerator not getting cold - freezer still pretty cold (top) - perhaps not all the way

you have a defrost prblem or a leak in the sealed system.if you see frost built up on back freezer wall then it is a defrost problem also check evaporator fan motor to see if it is running.if machine is in defrost you wont hear it.so when compressor is running see if fan is running.

Fridge not getting cold

Hello swill688
Welcome to fixyz

You said, Your Kenmore refrigerator not getting cold

What is the model number?
And how old is it?

First check that the freezer is not filled packed full, and covering the air passage vents in the rear of the freezer! The fridge and the freezer share cold air from the compressor.
and his can cause the fridge to get warmer.
The other 2 things may be, either the coolant is low and needs to have the pressure checked then perhaps a sot of freon.
Or the thermostat may be malfunctioning!

I hope the freezer is packed to full, this is the easy way out of this situation!

Let me know!

Thank You, Huuum

Amana ARB1917CSR ? Refrigerator freezing food, (bottom) freezer working OK

I picked up on something you wrote within your problem description. "got the thermostat replaced under warranty" & "that worked for a while ". back in Aug of 2002. It's August of 2008 and your thermostat may have failed again. 6 years later... not so unusual. Anyway, since your fridge has a bottom freezer, there must be a pass thru between the freezer and the fridge compartment in an area you haven't examined yet. The fridge gets cold air delivered from the freezer to keep it cold thru this pass thru and many fridges have an adjustable flap that allows you to limit that cold air flow. Time permitting, can you do a more thorough examination of the fridge area ( side walls near crisper drawers perhaps?) or better than that, remove the drawers and look for that air duct pass thru. Once located, if it does not have an adjustable damper, try a little duct tape to limit the amount of cold air from migrating into the fridge compartment. Other options: Can you contact Amana customer support directly and get their support? That particular model has been discontinued by Amana but they should be able to support it. Not sure I added anything to what you already know. Gave it a shot thou...

Refrigerator not getting cold - freezer still pretty cold - perhaps not all the way raphael@raphaelbachrach.com refrigerator not getting cold - freezer side is working

Sounds like a defrost problem or dirty coils under the machine. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

Defrost system problem; Check back wall of freezer for frost buildup which indicates the defrost problem.
