Brush will not turn, nothing jammed in it and no hair tangled around the brush. I have heard to push the reset button but I don't know where it is located.

Brush bar does not spin and vacuum on capets. slight burn spell.

Burning smell is from the belt that turns the brush. Most the time hair or carpet fibers has it jammed up. Unplug vaccum. Turn it upside down and cut the tangled mess and remove it. Alot of the time the vaccine will be plugged up behind the brush and before the fill basin. Also remove the hose attachment and check from there to the are that makes contact with the floor behind the brush. Use a metal coat hanger to remove clogs. Dump basin and remove filters. Wash them or beat them against something outside to release the dirt. Put it all back together and do some house keeping.

Dyson brush bar stops when I move forward

Make sure that the brush does not have lots of hair etc jammed around it. If there is anything that will cause resistance to the brush bar turning, a sensor will immobilise the brush until it is clear. Be careful how far you strip it back to as there may be warranty issues if you do more than undo the bottom with a penny, so you can use scissors to cut away at the hair or carpet fibre entanglement. Good luck

The brush will not turn

Hi Richard,

DC24's brush bar is engineered to shut itself off to prevent damage if something jams it. Once you've checked the checked the cleaner head for obstructions and removed any threads or hair from around the brush bar, you can reset the machine as shown in the video attached.

Tip: It can help to use something like the eraser-end of a pencil to push the reset button. When pushed correctly you should feel a click.

Please note: The brush bar will never rotate when DC24 is standing upright, so make sure you recline the machine into the normal vacuuming position before testing it.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but if you would like any further advice from our experts you can reach us directly by calling the Dyson customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

Brush bar wont spin on my dyson dc 24

Hi Heidi,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC24. Your machine is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the brushbar if it gets tangled with a rug fringe, shoe lace etc. Once you've made sure the cleaner head is free of obstructions, and removed any threads or hair from around the brushbar, you'll be able to reset the machine.

The easiest way to do this is to follow the steps shown in the video below. When you press the red reset button, you may find it helpful to use something like the eraser end of a pencil to press it in until you hear an audible 'click'.

This should resolve your issue, but if you'd like further assistance, you can call our Helpline free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

Jack

My bristles have stopped rotating

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having a problem with your DC24. Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing in the upright position, or if you've turned it off using the silver switch next to the red on/off switch.

DC24 is equipped with a safety cutout feature which shuts off the brushbar if it becomes tangled in a rug fringe, etc. Resetting this is very simple: after checking the brushbar is free of threads, hair or other obstructions, turn the cleaner to face you. You will find the reset button in the red recess on the left-hand side of the cleaner head. Use the blunt end of a pencil or something similar to push the button in firmly until an audible 'click' is heard.

You might find it helpful to refer to our online step-by-step guide to check you're doing everything correctly:

If you've tried this and you're still having difficulties, please get in touch with us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some checks over the phone and provide the assistance you need.

The brush wont rotate on my windtunnel vac but it still has suction. Could this be a broken belt?

Yep - that's usually the culprit if the brush stops turning. However, pull off the skid plate (bottom panel) and make sure you haven't picked up any string or some other obstruction that's wrapped itself around the brush & stopped it from turning. Things like hair/string don't always end up in the bag/bin sometimes if they're long enough they just wrap themselves around the brush.

When the dyson is turned on the suction goes to the wand when you tip the beater down you do not have as much suction you cant pick up lint.

The Dyson system is designed to operate the hose with the handle in the upright position. When the head is tipped down (floor vacuum position) it closes the opening to the hose/wand

My dyson dc17 amimal's main turbine head is not working, is there a reset button or any other solution? I don't think it is the belt!

Right next to the power switch is a switch that will turn on/off the beater brush. Push firmly on this button and see if that turns it back on. It will turn itself off if it has too much resistance on it from getting tangled in something like a long carpet fiber that wraps itself around the beater brush. Check and make sure it's not bound up by something and then press the on/off button for the beater brush.

THE BOSS SUPERLITE THE BRUSHES WON'T TURN

Check two things with this model: if the top slider button has been activated it will turn the brush roll on. If not then you'll have to remove the sole plate and check the sides of the beater bar - sometimes this will get jammed and refuse to turn because clogging of dust or tangled hair/carpet thread takes up the thread wheels at the sides. Sadly this model has a permanent toothed drive belt that can't really be replaced by the owner. However check the slider control on the top of the main body / handle first before doing anything - as you know it has a two option slider - switching on without the brush roll function and switching on with the brush roll activated.
