Re: blinking picture and bars running on diagonal
A common cause is a short in the electron gun inside of the CRT neck. This is not fixable without changing the CRT. The CRT is terribly expensive to replace if it was available.
A less common cause is a failure in the HV multiplier. This is part of the flyback assembly. Changing the flyback assembly is taking a gamble to see if the fault is fixed this way. There can also be some other support components that will have to be changed.
Considering the age of the set, I would not invest any money in to it.

How many times do this standby/power light blinks at one time switch ON? Count it. These blinks are fault indications, and are called blinking codes. By this number of blinks, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside the TV. If you wish to get more details about these blinking codes, check the site linked here. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Pull up previous posts there, either by its
left side bar, or view it in Timeslideoption.
It is possible that the electron-gun inside of the CRT is having an intermittant short. It is also possible that there is an intermitttant failure in the bias or drive circuits for the CRT electron-gun.
The TV service tech would have to run some tests to determine the actual fault, and then the failed components.
If the CRT is at fault, the set will not be worth to service.
Picture blinks on/off and audio is still there?? If so it's the crt and a common thing for sonys to go out like that.. You can lower the G2 voltage a bit and that might help for awhile or have the tube rejuvenated by a technician - but either idea is only a temporary fix...
No picture - screen is empty. Sound is ok
Check IC101 (BA7630F), if video signal comes to input (pin 1) but not present at output (pin 14) then replace this IC No picture and sound, only a high pitch sound at switch on
Remove horizontal transistor and measure the resistance across any two pins. This value should be no less than 200ohms
Picture fades away few seconds after start-up till no picture.
Sometimes no picture at all. Sometimes picture OK for longer. Sound
Faulty joints on CRT pcb. Cracked solder joints at tube socket
connections on CRT circuit board. Caused variable supply to CRT
heaters. Resolder all socket pins to pcb.
