Western Digital External 1T Interferes with XP uploading

When I start my computer at some point the screen stops. This only happens when I have a Western Digital External Drive connected to it. It stops way before the screen with all the windows graphics appears. How can I get the OS to stop doing this?

Thank you...

You can't
Just unplug the external HDD before you start the computer. Your computer is looking at the ex. HDD for the OS

Your hard drive is corrupted. disconnect it until Windows loads.

when windows loads, run disk checker. right click your drive, go to properties. select tools, then disk checker.
let it run.

WD Eliments 1T external HD. hidden data

hi there could be a couple of things you can try, you could, ( if you have xp ) have the drive in, then go to my computer, then tools, then folder options, click, view, then look down the list for show hidden files and folders, that's one, the other is to take the drive caddy apart, remove the hard drive ( as they are just normal hdd's in external boxes ) connect it up to a spare port on your desktop computer and see if you can transfer files that way, ( note! this will void the warranty on the drive case if you do this if it is still under warranty ) the other way would be to get a data recovery program, like winundelete, which you should be able to find on either your computer or the net for free, hope this will help

Western Digital hard drive problem

Ok.  I have a WD 500 and I have ran into similar problems.  First, shut your computer down.  Unplug the hard drives USB cable and the power cable.  Wait for about 2 minutes.  Plug the USB cable into the computer, plug the power cord in...wait for 30-45 seconds and then start your computer.  That hopefully should solve your issues.

in the bios setup set the internal harddisk to be the primary storage device and the external to be as the slave one...

My WD MyBook 500GB drive is causing Windows XP to be self-retardant. (Slows)

Heres what you do.

Don't plug your external HD in while the computer is booting up. It's looking for Windows on your external hard drive. Hence the black screen.

Plug your USB or Firewire cable back in once Windows is finished booting up.

Mine does that sometime too.
