Usually most DVD's play movie trailers and sometimes advertisement before the movie will play. Once the ads or trailers are done it should go to the menu screen and at that point "play" or something like that should be underlined. If it is you can press play or select on the DVD player then the movie should start : )

Cannot read disc

Had the same type of problem; I called Magnavox on this one. These DVD players aren't "guaranteed" to be able to read discs that were "burned"/homemade. They're only "guaranteed" to play commerically produced DVDs. If you're trying to play something that you made it probably isn't going to work.

Recorded dvd

You are probably having an issue with the discs rather then what you are trying to play them on.
The discs need to be finalized before they can be used on another player.

  1. Put the disc in the drive (the ones you have already recorded)
  2. Press SETUP on the remote
  3. Select - Disc Edit Press OK
  4. Select - Finalize Press OK
Wait until it is finished then try to play them on another player.

Cannot read dvd from region 3

Well DVD's from regon 3 are from these parts of the world:
CAMBODIA
HONG KONG
INDONESIA
KOREA
MALAYSIA
PHILIPPINES
SINGAPORE
TAIWAN
THAILAND
VIET NAM
And a few others in that area

Region 1 is what we use for DVD's in the USA

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
DVD region code
"Region 1–8" redirects here. For the ITU regions, see International Telecommunication Union region.

DVD RegionsDVD video discs may be encoded with a region code restricting the area of the world in which they can be played. Discs without region coding are called all region or region 0 discs.
The commercial DVD player specification requires that a player to be sold in a given place not play discs encoded for a different region (region 0 discs are not restricted). The purpose of this is to allow motion picture studios to control aspects of a release, including content, release date, and, especially, price, according to the region. Many DVD players are or can be modified to be region-free, allowing playback of all discs.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code

I looked on a few sites for region codes for your player but they all came up with same answer as this one http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/magnavox-mdv453/3134
there doesnt seem to be any code available for your model to set it to region-0 (region free)
