Question about Panasonic DMR-ES40V DVD-Video Recorder

2 Answers

I get a double black-and-white image when the TV is running through the VCR

All of a sudden, nothing works - won't read DVD's and I have a black and white split screen that is distorted.

I have had that problem before. First reset your unit by holding down the channel up and channel down on your unit for about 10 seconds until it shuts off. This restores the default settings and my get your DVDs to be read again.
The split screen is probably indicating that your Progressive option is On and should be turned Off. Press the Display button on your remote control ----> go to the Video menu ---> go to Progressive and turn it Off.
If you are still having trouble, download the updated firmware from the Panasonic website, store it a cd and put it in your DVD player. (Instructions are on the Panasonic website)
After you run the firmware install procedure you may have to turn the Progressive video option off again. Hope this works for you as well as it worked for me. All the Best - Tamara

I had this same problem once. Go on your dvd menu and go to settings and hit "reset default settings". That worked for me. Hope this helps.

Let me revise my solution. On my dvd recorder the menu features are under the "functions" option on my remote. Click functions, then setup, then select reset default settings. Hope this helps.

Will a Funai 31B750 Nicam VCR play analogue tapes on a Samsung UE40D5520 TV and will it record from this TV?

Yes of course if the TV has composite video inputs ( Yellow/White/Red ) sockets at the back. Just connect a 3 RCA to 3 RCA cable from your Funai video out to the TV's AV input. Make sure you don't get the colors mixed up. Select the corresponding AV input on the TV and one should get the VCR image provided the head of the VCR is clean. If not you won't get any picture nor sound.

Black and white only

Well - it's fixed - but no thanks to anything I did.  It's just all of a sudden working fine again.  I tried three different dvd's the other night, and all were black and white.  But last night the same dvd's were back to colour.  Who knows?
But thanks for asking.
