Your iPhone is becoming slow because a large number of junks files including cookies, documents & data, temp files, "other" data etc. If you don't want to uninstall or reinstall any iOS apps, you can use 3rd party software like CleanMyPhone to clean and speed up your iPhone.

Try a firmware restore. If that fails it looks like you might need anew logic board which in theory you can replace yourself. Here's aguide on how to disassemble an iPhone. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you. If you want to have somebody else do it for you there are third party iPhone Repair Services.

To restart: Hold Sleep/Wake together for about 10 seconds. The screen will go blank but don't let go until the Apple logo comes up.
It sounds like your problems will be solved by upgrading to 2.1 firmware. Just connect to iTunes, click your iPhone in the left column, click "Check for Update", and let it do what it does.
Good luck,
Colin

Tip

Basic fix's.

Is your iPhone running slow?
Is it not doing the right things?
Is it acting like poop???

Just try hard reseting it. By that i don't just mean turning it off and on. I mean...
  • Hold the top right power button.
  • Hold the home button. (round button near bottom)
  • AT THE SAME TIME!
  • And hold them for about 10-15 seconds!
  • Then boot it up again, using the power button.
Also, if your having service problems. take out your SIM card, wipe it off, blow into the iPhone and slide it back in. :)

Why is my iPhone 5 so slow?

That app is likely only testing the network speed of your iPhone, and if you're using a cellular connection instead of WiFi, the results will depend heavily on which provider you're with and they're coverage in your area.
If you're using the same WiFi on all your devices, the iPhone 5 should not be slower than other iPhones, there are multiple reasons as to why it is getting slower speeds however.

If you're running the tests at the same time, they may interfere with each other so run them one after the other.

If you're already doing that, your router may be prioritising the other devices over your iPhone 5, assuming other devices are using the internet at the same time.

Hanging, slow response and no internet access

Haiz these china Iphones are quite expected to be like that. The main problem is they ALWAYS hang. So maybe refresh it or remove and put back the battery for a few times?

Slow response on the Iphone - sometimes it reboots by itself. I not sure what is happening but after I had it jailbreak my 1.1.2 iphone it gave me a slow response and sometimes it reboots by itself. I also...

'downloaded something from the net'

I think that is your problem. You have installed some app which is causing problems. Do a recovery using iTunes it should be ok again. After that you might need to jail break it again but then make sure you use good tools to do it.
