Question about Compaq Presario X1000 Notebook

1 Answer

Compaq x1000 (x1200) only powers u when I apply lots of pressure to both sides of the laptop

It seems after taking out the cmos battery, the laptop does not want to stay powered up on its own. Here is exactly whats happening:
1) I press the power button, the yellow led lightning bolt lights up, the green led power lights up, and the green led on the touchpad lights up, then goes off within a 1.5 seconds. 2) When I apply pressure to the sides of the laptop and hold it firmly, then power on, the initital leds light up and the blue led wlan lights up, followed by the fan powering up. 3) Conitnuing to hold firmly the notebook boots fine into OS as it should. 4) When I ease on the pressure the laptop turns off. Can someone help Identify the cause of this issue. I am very PC Savy and have no problem of dismantling the notebook to get to the root cause, if that is what is to be done. Once again the problem is getting the notebook to power up on its own and staying on. [centrino 1.5GHz, XP, ATI9200] Thanks plenty for any assitance anyone can provide... SilkPC

Battery is needed to complete circuit. Too bad you didn't have the old one.

Reset BIOS

To reset the BIOS read the information from this link.

In case of your Compaq Presario laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.

When i switch ON the lights come up but the monitor doen't

It seems your monitor's connectors are somehow severed. When you apply pressure it connects again. You must bring it to a service for repair.

Blank screen on Compaq Presario X1000

Since u said that ur screen flashed and also u said that when u connected an external VGA nothing would display so from these two i can tell you that it is a hardware problem and that too with the VGA card/display card.
