Printing white tick marks

My printer is printing tick marks on pages that are full color. Every page has them in the same place. I have tried using the cleaning rod, but this does not seem to help. Any assistance would be appreciated

I have the same problem: white tick marks horizontally across the page in two areas.

  • Anonymous Sep 11, 2008

Tick marks across the bottom about 4 inches up there are about 11 of them in a row, and the row above has 4 on the right side only.

  1. This is a common problem with all 3100cn drums! Read the instructions carefully. You can also just remove the cover and also the left and right roller pins that are inside at the upper top of the drum, allowing you to run the drum without the cover and your problems will also be solved! Or do the following and then replace the top cover onto the drum unit! Save your money! We have done this to all 3 of our color CN3100 Dell laser printer drums.....
  2. Remove the drum unit from your 3100cn.
  3. Set the drum unit on a clean level surface and avoid touching the drum or the transfer belt (the decal with 4 arrows points to the transfer belt).
  4. Remove the 6 screws from the top cover (the cover has the blue handle attached). Two screws are on top at both ends of the blue handle. The next 2 screws are on the sides and line up with the decal with 4 arrows. The last 2 screws are also on the sides and at the lower corners of the big decal that shows how to remove the drum unit from the 3100cn.
  5. Carefully lift the cover from the drum unit paying attention to the left and right roller pins a the top of the unit once the cover is removed. Now cover the drum unit with clean paper to protect the transfer belt from bright light. You can carefully reinstall the drum unit without the top cover and run some color prints. If the lines are gone then either leave the cover off or you can continue with step 6.
  6. Look at the ribbed side of the top cover. Some may show some toner build-up. Some of the rib intersections are too high and are dragging in the toner that is applied to the transfer belt. The ribs are there to add stiffness to the cover and to keep it from bowing.
  7. Place the cover handle side down on a clean towel.
  8. Using a palm sander with 320 grit sandpaper and light pressure (the weight of the palm sander) sand until the ribs going both directions are showing signs of being sanded. You will be able to see the difference as unsanded areas will be glossy and sanded areas will have a dull finish.
  9. Switch to 600 grit paper and do a light sanding.
  10. Wash the cover under cool water. Don't use hot water since that could cause the cover to bend.
  11. Dry completely. I used compressed air.
  12. Reinstall the cover to the drum unit. Tighten the 4 side screws first and then the 2 top screws last.
  13. Put the drum unit back into the 3100cn and try a color print.
  14. Please post if you have any questions about the procedure.
  15. If your next drum unit has the same problem you can swap top covers.

This is caused by the imaging drum. This is a consumable item and needs to be replaced when print quality starts to deteriorate.

The reason the defects in print are always in the same location is because the imaging drum always starts at the same place, so the defect will always appear in the same location.

if any of the developers were defective, there would be many more defects, however they would be equally spaced between the defects.

Try to print clean page ,
Print a cleaning page During the printing process, paper, toner, and dust particles can accumulate inside the printer and can cause print quality issues such as toner specks or spatter, smears, streaks, lines or repeating marks. Follow these steps to clean the printer's paper path.
  1. Load copier-grade paper (not bond, heavy, or rough paper).
  2. On the printer's control panel, touch the Menu button.
  3. Touch Configure Device .
  4. Touch Print Quality .
  5. Touch Process Cleaning Page .
A Cleaning message appears on the printer control panel display while the cleaning is taking place. The cleaning process takes a few minutes to complete. Do not turn the printer off until the cleaning process has finished. A page will be printed when the task is complete. Discard the page. You might need to repeat the cleaning process to thoroughly clean the printer. Print a few more pages to see if the problem is resolved.

Lexmark pro 900 will not print color

Try to check your printing preferences if it's set to print using all available ink or check if it's set to print in black and white. To do that, on the application that you're printing from, click on File > Print > Preferences/Properties.

Also, make sure that the firmware of your printer is up to date. Just go to http://bit.ly/ghfW8H to download the firmware update.

My hp printer casts purple to black and white prints

Tried your settings with no luck. Also tried every canon profile listed to no avail.

These are my settings:
Color management:
Color handling: Photoshop manages colors
Source space: sRGB...2.1
Printer profile: Canon MP620 Series GL2/52G
Rendering: Perpectual

Media Type: Glossy Photo paper
Print quality: standard
Effects: borderless

Printer Preferences:
Color Intensity: manual-set-everything is 0-matching:none

I am using Kodak glossy paper and I am using that setting. I am printing a digital scrapbook page with color. I used black and white pictures in the page trying to get rid of the purple trees, so it shouldn't be printing any color at all in the photos, but the limbs are still purple.

Under color settings in PSE I have checked "optimize for printing".

I am off to the store to pick up another package of photo paper..maybe HP or Epson will be better (I think those are the other 2 choices in the store)

Will check back in after I try the other papers

I'm printing a double sided card. The back side comes out fine (white with black letters). The front side needs to be completey black with red letters. It keeps coming out blurry. How do I fix that?

It may be that the ribbon is mispositioned. There are quite a few points in the trouble shooting section of the owners manual. These start on page 53. Here is the link to the page at the zebra company site that you can download the manual from.

http://www.zebra.com/id/zebra/na/en/index/products/printers/card/p120i.4.tabs.html

Hope this helps,

I have a Lexmark 1200 printer. Colour promlems

It could be that the cartridge has become dry.
you have to try several head cleans using the printer software and if that doesnt help then the cartridge needs to be replaced.

I bought new color cartridges, but the printer only prints in black and white or grayscale. Why won't the color show up?

check the print settings by going to printing preferences and check if the grayscale or black and white is the one that is selected
change it to color
also make sure that the color cartridge is properly snapped inside.
try printing a test page and see if all colors come on the printed page

let me know if you need any further assistance
