I put a 2gb ddr2-667 memory chip in the single (only) memory slot in my gateway nx100x notebook pc. The pc will not boot up with the 2gb memory card. Is there a compatibility problem or do I have a ba

yes, there may be compatibility problem. your 2GB ram may be dead. try your 2gb ram on other notebooks. if it is working on other notebooks, then your ram is ok. your notebook will support maximum 2GB ddr2 memory per slot. your notebook may not be booting due to unsupported frequency of your ram. maximum supported frequency for your notebook may me 400Mhz, and you are putting a 667MHz ram into it. try to put a 400MHz 2GB ddr2 ram in your notebook.

Trying to upgrade memory, have tried three sticks purchased at Best Buy terrific Geek Squad. None work. Where can I purchase a upgrade memory?

You may have non OEM memory, your system may not be able to handle that much mem, or you could have something wrong with the connector that your mem fits into. If your original mem still works then the connector is not the issue. You should also make sure you are putting in the memory stick correctly. Make sure it is put in straight and is firmly placed in the connector. If you don't it will cause your problem. Capacity is 1G. If you are trying to put in a 2G it will not work. Hope this helps.

I need to add memory but don't know what I need. I don't want to get the wrong memory upgrade but I had it cleaned out and upgraded, its way to slow to run windows xp with only 256 RAM

First, you need to know the max your computer can hold. Then, simply go and buy them from best buy. I think they will also install it for you. If not, then check out this guide.http://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/install-laptop-memory.htm

Want to upgrade Gateway 825 GM with 1 GB to 3GB myself.

Go to www.crucial.com and put in the details of your machine. Memory can be iffy and its best to get some that WILL work, even if it costs a bit more. Right now, DDR2 memory costs $10.00/1Gb and DDR is about $35. Crucial will tell you what you need, and how many your PC can take then BUY it wherever you can.
To install, do a websearch on Memory Upgrade DIY and follow instruction. It is not hard and thake good eyesight, a bright light, only a phillips-tip screwdriver and patience.
Don't forget to unplug from the wall and touch the metal housing (case inside) occasionally while you are in there to dissipate any static electricity BEFORE you touch anything one the inside and every now and then wile you are working.
Also, if anyone is 'helping' you, they too MUST ground out (touch the frame/case) before touching you or the box. I was working on a laptop once, wifey came home, took off her jacket, and gave me a kiss on the back of my head, a spark jumped from herr lips to me, and the laptop died. It is still dead.
She meant well but you cannot underestimate the power of a carpet, jacket or curtain shock.

Gateway wont take new ram???

Was the memory made for that specific model? I know that on Toshiba laptops sometimes you have to buy the memory that was specifically designed for that model. You can always try a website like kingston. They may make the memory specific to your laptop mode. If you would like more help please feel free to reply.

Gateway laptop screen blank

If your laptop does not display a POST (power on start test)information your RAM could be faulty or the RAM is not making proper electrical connection.
Try reseating your RAM (memory), remove and reinsert the memory module a few times. Then reboot your laptop.

If it still does not work, then the memory may be faulty. You could test your memory in another laptop or try memory from another laptop in your laptop, to determine whether your memory is OK or not before you commit to buy new RAM.

If you get rid of Vista and put in 2gb of Ram your Laptop will not need 4 gb of ram.  You need to get it will not support double sided or ECC this is why you can not have 4gb you need 2GB kit (1GBx2), 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module
