Question about Panasonic NV-FJ620 VHS/S-VHS playback VCR

Nv fj630 can't power up

I have a nv fj630 panasonic vcr which I haven't used for some time. I have just tried to power it up and it won't work. I have looked at the fuse in the case and it seems okay. There is a video in the unit and has been there for some time as well. Any suggestions what might be the problem?

After power cut, my vcr NV-FJ620 failed to power up again. It's in the same trailing lead as other items (Sky box, DVD player), all of which came back on OK.

We have an identical problem. We were away for a couple of days, during which there was a power cut. Everything else came back on except the VCR and we can't get anything out of it at all. Is there a fuse inside the box?

Had the same problem with my one. After a lot of time spent testing etc and finding no low volts of any value present and looking on the web, I found that Panasonic tend to use a similar design of power supply for a lot of models and there appears to be, after a number of years in use, a weak link in the design/use with the voltage regulator. For this model, the regulator generic part number is STRG 6352 and the Panasonic part no is C5HACZZ00002. In the UK it is available from:-
http:/www.chsinteractive.co.uk/electrical-components/misc/nvfj620b-c5haczz00002-ic-pana.htm
If you need a service manual for this model, which is helpful for checking things/disasembly/assembly, you can obtain a free one from:-
http://www.reptips.dk/Reptips/NV-FJ620.pdf
As a note the panasonic replacement from chs came with the pins bent correctly, so it fitted directly after I had cut the old one out.

Best of luck!

I have a Panasonic NV-FJ600 VCR which ejects every cassette which is loaded , and the two guide rollers remain at the rear of the machine and do not move forward to engage the tape .

If you mean the guides are on either side of the head drum, and the carriage is in eject position, the mechanism is out of alignment. Re-alignment and re-timing may require a workshop service by a professional Panasonic agent.

The bad news is the likely cost(s) involved if parts are replaced.

The NV-FJ600A VCRs were good models a few years ago, one of the first 'super long play' series Panasonic launched.

They use the Z-mech series of decks. These are not impossible to re-align/re-time, unlike previous mech designs, but depending on the extent of wear/damage, can prove uneconomical for a budget VCR which would now be close to 10 years old.

I know of four places that deal in Panasonic parts and they are all on-line!
Number one is Grandata, 2 is Willow Vale, 3 is CPC.
The fourth one I have just checked on and they have the upper cylinder unit in stock at £47.99 plus P&P!
And they are Curry's Partmaster.
You might want to try the others just in case they do it cheaper, but I find that Panasonic heads tend to be all around that sort of price.

How to time loading arm cogs on VCR?

Most Panasonic VCR use a mechanisms with a letter. For example the NV-HS900 uses a K Deck. What you need to do is type the model number into google and search for which deck it uses. Then with luck you might also find the instructions for setting the deck up correctly. I got the K-Deck one free.

Panasonic NV-SJ205 Changing Rf ?

ok. This is a really easy one.
All you have to do is hold down the menu button on the remote control for more than 5 seconds, If that doesnt work hold down the power button on the remote control for more than 5 seconds. If that doesnt work hold down the power button on the actual vcr unit for 15 seconds. The first method should work for Panasonic's fine.
This will then display your current rf output.
You can then change the output by using the up and down arrows or the channel up and down button on your remote or the vcr unit.
Press menu button to save or the same button you used to bring up the rf opposition eg power button on remote or the unit.

all the best. Top tech
