How to adjust carburator Jeep Wrangler 4.0 258 of 1991

While engine is turned off.Screw shut both fuel and air mixture. Then each screw turn open 2 and half turn or some times 2 full turns.that should give close enough mixture .then switch engine on and make sure idle at 10rpm for auto and 6 rpm for manual. Then adjust screws lightly to your needs constant check rear exhaust for color of smoke if black it\'s too rich in fuel and if it\'s a farting noise coming out of the exhaust it\'s too lean. The sound out of the exhaust should be running continues and no missing.

Adjust air fuel mixture

Hi Wentzpatrick, on the right hand side of the carburator there is an idle adjusting screw with a spring behind it, turn screw clockwise to increase idle counter clockwise to decrease idle. There is also an air/fuel mixture screw inside a carb body lug that may or may not be plugged with an aluminum cap that's about 3/16" thick. This cap can be drilled out to acess the air/fuel mixture screw. Turning screw clockwise will lean out mixture and lower idle, turning screw counter clockwise will richen mixture and raise idle. You need to balance the two adjusting screws to obtain an idle of 950-1000 RPM then back out air/fuel mixture screw 1/4 turn, snap throttle to confirm responce, you may continue to back out air/fuel mixture screw untill desired throttle responce is achieved, if you see black smoke coming out of exhaust you have gone to far and need to turn screw back in 1/8 turn at a time. Good luck.

Good luck and hace nice day.

I have a 2004 polaris sportsman 90 atv that leaks fuel

it does sound like the float adjustment is off inside the carb. allowing fuel to overflow the bowl and seep out the carb. if you take the carbeurator off the bike and take it to the dealer they shouldn't charge you too much just to adjust it out for you.

Need to adjust my honda shadow 500 vt carburator's fuel/air mixture

start by synchronizing your throttle plates. Honda calls the next step the "idle drop procedure". u need to know if you have fuel adj. screws or air adj. screws. fuel screws will be on engine side of carb slide, air screws will be on airbox side of carb slide. start leaning out mixture, (turn in fuel screw, turn out air screw. idle will increase so keep adjusting idle back to spec.after each turn if needed. Adjust about 1/4 to 1/2 turn at a time on each carb until there is no change in idle, then richen up mixture by one half turn. If u sync throttle plates first then follow this procedure, there should be no hesitation when you "blip" the throttle, and after revving it should return to idle smooth,

I had a problem with it not starting.it just all the sudden quit. the dealer told me it was the ecm i replaced it,but now it won't idel. iv clened the carb, new plug now what?

Could be a wide variety of problems, from Ignition malfunction, idle speed incorrect, carburator malfunction, contaminated fuel, intake air leak, or air cleaner clogged. I had the same problem whith my sportsman 500 and it turned out to be that the pulse coil was out of adjustment. It might would also help to know make model and year. Good luck.

Bogs down & spits back through carb.

Sounds like you may need a valve job. Have you been keeping the valve clearances adjusted? It's important to do that on a four-stroke engine. Check your compression to find out if the valves are ok.

Idle speed problems

Hi Walker14,

You have to sync thecarbs and also you will have to reset the air-fuel mixture screws.
One of the carburators should be factory adjusted, I dont wn a kawasaki but I own a YAMAHA SECA XJ750R and thro it I am sharing my experince.
Once you have located the factory preadjusted carburator you can thn set the others to its specs. I use the feeler gauge to do for my bikes carburators and it works fine.
With regards to the mixture screw..... get the all in tightened but slowly aas to not damage the pin end of it!.
Start the bike and get it to normal running temp and thn set the screws 2 and half turns out...you may need to set your idling speed before you begin this setting of the mixture screws, you prolly will hveto go higher on revs or vicecersa ....onc eyou are at the mixture screws and adjusting them , you will surely note the differenc ein sound of he bike an its idling ..
Hope this will help.
