SOURCE: 320 GB transcend external Hard dics is not at all detected

Hello,

First of all make sure that the USB port that you are using to connect it to your PC is a USB 2.0 port, and not USB 1.0.

Also if it came with an external power, connect it to the external power before putting on your PC.

This is because the voltage supplied by USB 1.0 is lower than that of USB 2.0 and therefore might not be enough to power up your USB Drive.

After making sure about this, power up your system, and plug the external drive, then Right-Click on my computer icon, select manage, then go to Disk Management Option.

On the Disk management option Page you should see ALL the drives installed on your system, including the hidden ones, so what you will just do is, try and locate the one representing your external drive, and right click on it. then select "Change Drive letter and Paths", and give the drive any new, unique letter (i.e alphabet) different from the ones already on your system, and click on OK.

This should make your external Drive to be detected automatically.

Hope this helps you out.
Goodluck!

SOURCE: After formatting my currupted external 640GB HDD

The data on the external disk was corrupted because the hard disk from it was dying. Take it out of the case , put it directly in a desktop and test it with HDTune (the free version of course) -it will tell you the damage status and if it's recoverable.
If not then it's dead - junk it.

click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems
hope this helps

Doesn't work, cable problem, don't recognize

Some external storage devices work poorly or not at all when connected to a hub; try connecting the drive directly to a port on the computer. Also check if it's detected in "Disk Management". Here you can verify if the partition and format are correct for the Operating System. Check the Drive's status in Device manager. This will verify if the external drive has a drive letter designation. Check Partition and Format. Log in as Administrator account in windows or any other account with administrative privileges Insert your removable disk into the USB port. Click Start, right click on computer and select manage. Now, click Disk Management. Check whether drive letter for the device is present. Check the lower window to find whether the device is detected (such as Disk 1, Disk 2, etc). If the device is detected with a drive letter, verify that no other device is using that drive letter. If it is, change it to unused drive letter. Hope this helps.

120G hard disk doesn't work on p4m266a mother board

The hard disk maybe faulty especially if the BIOS cannot detect the hard disk.
Try connecting the hard disk into an USB hard drive adapter and then plug it into the USB port of a working computer. If this computer cannot detect the USB hard drive adapter as an external storage device then this hard drive is faulty.

Can i connect my pc which is acer aspire 4720z to my LCD TV WHICH is LG22LH20R? if so which port/data cable i have to use??

The LCD TV does not have the software installed on it to integrate with the Pen drive. That is why. Pen drives are meant for input and output of data via computers with USB ports. The pieces of software required to make a computer recognize and interact with a Pen drive (or indeed any other external flash, solid state or hard disk drive based external storage devices) are USB and Storage Device Drivers built-into a computer's Operating System. Your TV does not have such drivers installed on it because it does not have an internal Storage Device to interact with external storage devices.
Your notebook can connect to the LCD TVs VGA Port by connecting a VGA Cable from the Port to the Notebooks own VGA Port -> press and hold the Fn key bottom left of the keyboard -> press the Function key at the top of the keyboard bearing the image of two monitors -> release both keys -> use the TV's remote to select Menu -> Input/Source -> PC.

I have transcend 320 gB J25c external hardisk.I bought this recently.I pluged this to linux and window systems six or eight times and all of systems detect transcend disk. But the next day morning,I pluged...

Try checking your connections. Make sure the usb cable is firmly in the hard drive as well as the pc. Unplug the hard drive, restart the computer and plug it back in. If that does not work I would suggest trying some sort of file recovery/back up software and then calling in the warranty.

My PC failed to detect the transcend external hard drive. My name is Edwin Kakulu

The external storage device has several major components:

* USB cable

* external power-supply

* disk-drive inside the enclosure

* USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

Try a different USB cable.
Try a different USB port on your computer.
Try a USB port on a different computer.

Take a multi-meter, and measure the output voltage/amperage of the power-supply,
and compare with the specifications on the label of the power-supply.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and attach it as a "slave" drive in a desktop computer, to see if bypassing the USB-to-disk-drive adapter bypasses the problem.

Look at the label on the disk-drive, for manufacturer, product-number, serial-number, and manufacture date. Access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status" to see if the warranty still is valid. If so, the drive can be replaced, at minimal cost to you.

Buy a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Search online for a professional "data recovery service". For a significant fee, they can repair your disk-drive, just long-enough to copy your files to a new disk-drive.

I have transcend storejet 250 gb hdd , not detected by my laptop

Hi,

Even though it is possible that your USB hard driveis corrupt, but

before you finally conclude, try out these few troubleshooting

steps.

First of all, it is possible that the USB port that you are using is a

USB 1.0 port, which has a lower voltage not enough to

power on your Storage drive.

In this case, there are two things you can do,

1. Change the USB port you are using for the storage drive to a

USB 2.0 one (Just keep Checking all the ports one by one in case

you dont know which one it is).

2. If your Storage drive has external power facility, just plug it in

an external power first, before connecting it to the system.

If there are no USB 2.0 Ports on your system at all,

then just go to any electronic store and tell them you want to buy

a USB 2.0 Expansion card.

and if it is a laptop, A USB 2.0 PCMCIA card.

Install it on your system, and connect your external drive through it.

Meanwhile, before you try out the second option, test the drive on

a friend's system, that you are sure has a very good system, with

USB 2.0 port.

If after trying out all these, the USB Drive still doesn't work, then

I'm afraid, the drive might have been bad/spoilt.

Kindly keep me posted about the problem and let me know how it

goes

Hope this helps you out.

Thank you for using Fixya
